When AMERICAN HORROR STORY ended Season 1, the big twist wasn’t what happened to the characters, it’s what happened to the show. Executive producer and co-creator Ryan Murphy essentially pulled the wool over the viewers eyes and created a TV series that would reboot every year with a new story,  new characters and a new cast.

At today’s TCA press tour for the FX Network, John Landgraf, President & General Manager, says that he’s excited by what Murphy is conjuring up for the completely different Season 2.

“He really loves to create a new world,” says Landgraf. “You even saw that with NIP/TUCK, he wanted to recreate [the series] and move it from Miami to Los Angeles. This gives him the opportunity to do it every year.”

Landgraf says that currently, Murphy is looking for Season 2’s cast which will include “two or possibly three existing cast members.”

“Some series regulars are continuing next year and playing entirely new roles,” says Landgraf.

As for playing a trick on the audience and revealing that it would change drastically in Season 2, Landgraf says it was a risk he was willing to take.

“Ryan and [co-creator] Brad Falchuk were surprisingly buttoned up, but they really knew what they were doing and where they were going,” says Landgraf. “They have more leeway and more creative freedom than most. I don’t always know every detail and everything they’re up to. I knew that the entire family was going to die by the end of the season. I didn’t know if that particular aspect would alienate the audience, but that’s Ryan. He’s going to experiment with the form and push it to places you wouldn’t expect. You have to accept you’re going to be on a bit of a wild ride if you’re going to work with him.”
