Sometimes the best thing about going to the movies is seeing the movie trailers. Other times … not so much. Here are five movie previews that I watched so you don’t have to. THE SMURFS From the director of BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE and SCOOBY-DOO is another movie that will make you make you wish you were never born. This movie looks so smurfin’ bad. I would rather eat a smurfin’ gun than see it. Neil Patrick Harris deserves better than this. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN OK, I’m not going to lie to you, dear readers. I am going to see this […]Read On »

Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures held the World Premiere of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER at the El Capitan Theater on July 19th. The carpet was red and white, and at the end of the carpet before the stars of the film and guests walked into the theater was the CAPTAIN AMERICA shield. The premiere was sponsored by Harley-Davidson, and where I was they had a white Harley that the stars autographed when they walked on the carpet.  In the film, CAPTAIN AMERICA rides a Harley-Davidson WLA motorcycle.  Also sponsoring was Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin’ Donuts. Comic-Con 2011 News: Spider-Man will not be a part of any future THE AVENGERS movies according to producer Avi Arad

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #3 | ©2011 Marvel Comics

This one is a kind of a no-brainer, but for anyone wondering if the Spider-Man character would ever appear in a future THE AVENGERS team-up movie, don’t hold your breath. First of all, even though Marvel (and now Disney) owns the character, it’s currently licensed to Sony Pictures, which makes it harder to extract him for a movie at another studio. However, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN producer Avi Arad at a press event during Comic-Con 2011 says there’s another reason for not putting him a big movie like that either. “There’s the team-ups [in the comics] that keep the publishing going, […]Read On »

As we started to discuss this movie and what we wanted to make, […]Read On »

How faithful is the new RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES prequel? Well, director Rupert Wyatt, while speaking to the press at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, says it’s always a challenge to make a film of this ambition. “It’s never from my point of view as a director,” says Wyatt. “It was never my intention to be a slave to the franchise as it were. The writers presented us with a script that is very, very respectful and subtly acknowledging the mythology, but it’s very much an origin story in the real sense of the world. It’s the […]Read On »

With Justin Timberlake purposely putting his own successful music career on hold to focus on a budding movie career, it’s been quite surprising how fast that career has taken off with a major role in last year’s THE SOCIAL NETWORK to this year’s roles in the comedies as BAD TEACHER and this Friday’s FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS. Now Timberlake steps into the science-fiction genre with Andrel Niccol’s latest film IN TIME about a world where the rich can buy the ability to live longer, while the poor have to fight to survive. In the film, Timberlake is Will Salas who is […]Read On »

SDCC 2011 News: Was EXPLOSION the alternate title to PROMETHEUS?

ALIEN movie poster | ©1979 20th Century Fox

While speaking to the press at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, LOST co-creator Damon Lindelof spoke about scripting the new Ridley Scott directed film PROMETHEUS, which depending on who you speak to, is a thinly veiled prequel to Scott’s 1979 ALIEN. In coming up with a title, Lindelof says he wanted to come up with something “pretentious” like INTENTION. “PROMETHEUS makes the movie sound much smarter and much better than my original title EXPLOSION,” Lindelof says with a grin. Lindelof does go on to say that the title is very key into the story of the film, since Prometheus was […]Read On »
