In ABC’s THE RIVER (which airs its Season 1 finale tonight), a mixed group of documentary filmmakers and other personnel voyage along the unknown byways of South America’s mighty Amazon in search of a missing naturalist. They find plenty of supernatural peril along the way. Of course, they wouldn’t get very far without an engineer, which is where Daniel Zacapa’s character Emilio Venezuela comes in. What do we associate most closely with March 17, known for centuries as St. Patrick’s Day? Why, horror movies about leprechauns, of course. Syfy Channel is obliging this tradition with its original movie LEPRECHAUN’S REVENGE, which premieres Saturday night at 9 PM. The telefilm, directed by Drew Daywalt (ABSENTIA) and written by Anthony C. ABC’s freshman comedy SUBURGATORY, which runs Wednesdays at 8:30 PM, has already been renewed for a second season. The show, created by Emily Kapnek, is genuinely funny and features a great cast, headed up by Jane Levy as teenage protagonist Tessa Altman. Tessa’s well-meaning dad George (Jeremy Sisto) has moved the family from Manhattan to the suburbs, where Tessa’s high school is full of suburban mean mall girls.
