CD Review: Miranda Cosgrove – HIGH MAINTENANCE

Miranda Cosgrove - HIGH MAINTENANCE E.P. | ©2011 Sony Music

Distributor: Sony Music Suggested Retail Price: $9.78 Out of all the tween singing princesses spawned from Disney Channel/Nickelodeon shows, Miranda Cosgrove has the most potential to break out and have a pretty sturdy musical career long after her core audience has moved on. Last year’s SPARKS FLY was an excellent debut CD from the iCARLY star that mixed 1980s pop and techno with a modern sensibility. There were a bunch of great tunes on that disc including “Sparks Fly,” “Disgusting” and “Shakespeare” and now she’s looking to take things to the next level with her five-song E.P. HIGH MAINTENANCE. TV Review: FRINGE – Season 3 – “Stowaway”

Anna Torv in FRINGE - Season 3- "Stowaway" | ©2011 Fox/Liane Hentscher

Cast: Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Lance Reddick, Jasika Nicole Writers: Danielle Dispaltro from a story by J.H. Wyman, Jeff Pinkner and Akiva Goldsman Director: Charles Beeson Network: Fox, airs Fridays Original Telecast: March 18, 2011 “Stowaway” was certainly a bi-polar episode of FRINGE. On one hand we had the invasion of William Bell into the body of Olivia (Anna Torv), where we had epic reactions from Peter (Joshua Jackson), who of course is in love with her and in a relationship, and a number of buddy comedy moments with Walter (John Noble). On the other hand, we had […]Read On »

TV Review: FRINGE – SEASON 3 – “Os”

Anna Torv in FRINGE - Season 3 - "Os" | ©2011 Fox/Liane Hentscher

Cast: Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Lance Reddick, Jasika Nicole Director: Brad Anderson Writer: Josh Singer, Graham Roland Network: Fox, Airs on Friday Original Telecast: March 11, 2011 I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it many times again, no other show delivers the “WTF” moments like FRINGE does. The opening scene where some dude literally floats on air for no apparent reason was just one of many moments in “Os.” This was definitely the type of episode of FRINGE that we haven’t seen in quite a while on the show – just brutal with ample amounts […]Read On »

CD Review: BRUC soundtrack

Bruc Soundtrack | ©2010 Movie Score Media

You can likely put the number of Napoleon-ea action scores on a short list, a unique quality that makes the genre open musical territory for Spanish-born (and American-trained) composer Xavier Capellas, who’s handled the scoring chores on such Spanish-funded horror pictures as BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR and FAUST. BRUC carries as similarly unhinged quality as a Catalonian goes Rambo on the Emperor’s assassins who pursue him through the mountainous wilds of Monteressat, giving Capellas the opportunity to unleash heroic hell in one of the more weirdly off-kilter period scores since Joe Lo Duca’s BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF. Here more symphonically traditional adventure […]Read On »

TV Review: V – SEASON 2 – “Red Rain” – Season Premiere

Logan Huffman and Elizabeth Mitchell in V - Season Two - "Red Rain" |©2011 ABC/Marcel Williams

Stars: Elizabeth Mitchell, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Morena Baccarin, Laura Vandervoort, Scott Wolf, Logan Huffman, Charles Mesure Writers: Scott Rosenbaum and Gregg Andrew Hurwitz Director: Bryan Spicer Network: ABC, airs Tuesdays @ 9 p.m. Original Telecast: Jan. 4, 2011 I had high hopes for the reboot of V when it aired last year. The classic series was fun and had some great moments but it was always cheeseball with lousy special effects and props. However, what made up for it was great storytelling and of a resistance that actually was organized, motivated and did something. The first season of the […]Read On »
