TV Review: GLEE – Season 4 – “Guilty Pleasures”

Darren Criss and Chord Overstreet perform WHAM in GLEE - Season 4 - "Guilty Pleasures" | ©2013 Fox/Adam Rose

Writer: Russel Friend & Garrett Lerner Director: Eric Stoltz Network: Fox, airs Thursdays Original Telecast: March 24, 2013 Let’s just face it – GLEE is running on fumes. Story has become secondary, almost arbitrary and now the show feels like it only exists to sell songs and CDs. The storylines have become ridiculous during the second half of the season, the transition with the graduating glass (most of them conveniently enough in New York) and the remaining McKinley High students has been awkward and the characters continue to do things that make no sense whatsoever (Finn kissing Emma, huh?). CD Review: GLADIATOR soundtrack

GLADIATOR soundtrack | ©2013 Intrada Records

Jerry Goldsmith was arguably the greatest composer to hit Hollywood. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t capable of producing delightful cheese as much as he was a true masterworks. Case in point is his score for 1992’s GLADIATOR, an inner city boxing melodrama long forgotten in the wake of the Russell Crowe picture whose stakes were life and death. In this case, it was a TKO for Goldsmith when ROADHOUSE director Rowdy Herrington kicked his score to the curb in favor of Brad Fiedel, a composer whose electronic abilities were likely more “with it” than the veteran musical fighter. Yet […]Read On »

CD Review: HOUSE OF CARDS soundtrack

HOUSE OF CARDS soundtrack | ©2013 Varese Sarabande Records

Though he’s relatively young, it seems that composer Jeff Beal has been at TV series like FAMILY LAW, ROME, UGLY BETTY and MONK with the entrenched dependability of a continuously elected senator. If that’s an apt metaphor, then it’s no wonder that HOUSE OF CARDS just might end up being Beal’s biggest hit in the medium- even if the “network” it’s on happens to be Netflix. You might also find it hard to believe that the English came up with the idea first for such a distinctly American show about a devious politician out to step up the broken ladder […]Read On »

Otherwise, this is one of BONES’ better issue-oriented segments, tying the mystery […]Read On »

Stars: Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Ryan Seacrest Network: Airs on Fox, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 pm Original Telecast: March 20, 2013 It was a mild shocker on the elimination of Curtis Finch Jr. last week on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL. But after the women kicked the crap out of the men in the first round, it wasn’t that much of a surprise to see a dude go. So it’s week 2 and nine karaoke kids are left singing for America’s vote. And guess what, it is Beatles night … again …sigh. Can […]Read On »

TV Review: CASTLE – Season 5 – “Scared to Death”

Nathan Fillion as Castle on CASTLE "Recoil" | (c) 2013 ABC/COLLEEN HAYES

Stars: Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, Susan Sullivan, Molly Quinn, Tamala Jones, Seamus Deaver, Jon Huertas, Penny Johnson Jerald Writer:  Shalisha Francis Director: Ron Underwood Network: ABC, Monday nights, 10 p.m. Original Telecast: March 18, 2013 Let’s be real. CASTLE is never going get it right regarding police procedure. The writers routinely screw up the real world facts in favor of a cool connection, and most of the time we don’t really mind because we know going in this is not about accuracy, it’s about fun. In “Scared to Death,” we get plenty of the amusement factor – which is why this didn’t get a lower […]Read On »

Ewing has proven itself to be bittersweet. Yes, we lost the most infamous villain in television forever but, boy did it open up a bevy of story lines for DALLAS. Most noticeably it left a gaping hole where he once stood. Wasting no time at all,  “Prey” features Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval) and Harris Ryland (Mitch Pileggi) stepping up their devilish plots to take the […]Read On »
