While nothing is going to supplant “X-Mas Story” as the ultimate FUTURAMA holiday episode (the one where Robot Santa terrorizes citizens every December 25), there is something cool about the three-pronged story arc of “The Futurama Holiday Spectacular.” Three separate holidays are featured in segments that also include their own deranged song and dance number.
In the latest episode of AMC’s great new zombie series THE WALKING DEAD, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) takes a team back to the city to check on Merle and retrieve that desperately-needed bag of guns while the rest of the camp reacts to Jim’s strange grave-digging behavior. Has the man become a prophet, dreaming of death amongst the survivors, and if so, who in their little party will suffer a horrible fate before the day is out? It is a shame more people aren’t watching FRINGE. Since moving to Thursdays last year, the show has steadily declined in ratings. I like to believe it is because of the heated competition rather than the fact people have lost interest in the show. Seriously, how could anyone lose interest in this show? Week-after-week it continues to amaze and deliver the goods. This season especially has been quite enjoyable with the show alternating between the two universes each with their own perils and monsters. As Season 14 of SOUTH PARK comes to a close with “Creme Fraiche,” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone tackle two disparate topics – food porn and the Shake Weights phenomenon. When Stan’s dad Randy begins to obsess about cooking shows (staying up late and masturbating to them), his wife Sharon starts to block the programs on their TV. I definitely like the way that the opening episode of Season Two of HUMAN TARGET, “Ilsa Pucci,” set the table for the season ahead. While I’m sure some fans will be upset they glossed over the Season One finale – we got nothing to the fate of Katherine (Amy Acker) or Classic Chance (Lee Majors) who were introduced in the season finale – and the whole point of the finale, the mysterious book, gets destroyed in the first five minutes, it was a necessary evil to progress the show for the second season. One good thing could be said for the latest, lackluster episode of GLEE. The title “Substitute” didn’t result in a show choir version of The Who’s “Substitute.” Now that would be too obvious for a show, that occasionally lacks in subtlety. After the last episode of CHUCK, where our intrepid titular character (Zachary Levi) had the Intersect scrambled by his double crossing spy mother (Linda Hamilton), we get an episode focused on Chuck trying to get the Intersect back online. With “The Fear of Death,” CHUCK finds the show finding its comedic rhythm again and opening the story up even wider than before. The episode is aided by guest star Rob Riggle who plays the hilarious agent Jim Rye. Over its five seasons, DEXTER has come close to what happens in “Take It” a few times. Dexter (Michael C. Hall) found a measure of mutual understanding with fellow killers Lila (Jaime Murray) in Season Two and Miguel (Jimmy Smits) in Season Three, but neither of them had a code and both eventually became his deadly nemeses due to their differences. Now, however, Dexter has Lumen (Julia Stiles), whose motivations are sympathetic – she feels an urgent need to avenge her rape, torture and captivity at the hands of a ring of serial killers, the kind of men who are Dexter’s natural prey.
Something very right happened on the latest GLEE episode “Never Been Kissed.”It was an important episode about fitting in, feeling bad about yourself, forging new friendships and singing songs that actually fit perfectly in with the theme of the episode (and without feeling force-fed).
