TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “Halt & Catch Fire”

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Ali Milner, Barbara Kottmeier, Jeremy Thorsen Writers: Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, series created by Eric Kripke Director: John F. Showalter Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: February 10, 2015 Even on SUPERNATURAL, there have to be some episodes that are just so-so. Not great, not awful, not crazy, just the show doing what it does when nobody is feeling particularly inspired that week, though everyone is still perfectly competent. “Halt & Catch Fire” (not to be confused with the brilliant-every-episode AMC series of that title) is such an episode. Sam (Jared […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “About a Boy”

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Lesley Nicol, Dylan Everett, Mark Acheson, Madeleine Arthur, Kehli O’Byrne, Jason Wingham Writer: Adam Glass, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Serge Ladouceur Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: February 3, 2015 There may be another show out there that could combine movies like BIG and 16 AGAIN with the Hansel & Gretel legend, but SUPERNATURAL is the one that actually does it. The result, “About a Boy,” is entertaining and amusing, although it doesn’t give itself enough time to play with its premise. When people in a small Oregon town start […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “There’s No Place Like Home”

Jared Padalecki stars as Sam in SUPERNATURAL Theres no Place like Home | © 2015 Katie Yu/The CW

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Felicia Day, Duncan Fraser, Barclay Hope, Paul McGillion Writers: Robbie Thompson, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Phil Sgriccia Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: January 27, 2015 Sometimes it’s not a good sign when the “previously on” recap section feels like it runs as long as an actual episode, but on SUPERNATURAL’s “There’s No Place Like Home,” the reminders are both warranted and worthwhile. Things we need to know for “Home.” 1) Dean (Jensen Ackles) is still struggling with the Mark of Cain, which makes him prone to violence. 2) Dean […]Read On »

During its ninth season, SUPERNATURAL had a backdoor pilot for a spin-off in its episode “Bloodlines.” It didn’t work. However, SUPERNATURAL is now successfully in its tenth season and renewed for an eleventh. At a question and answer session with the Television Critics Association on January 11, The CW’s president Mark Pedowitz said that he’s not only still amenable to the possibility of a SUPERNATURAL spin-off, he actively wants one. “I’ve been pretty outspoken in wanting another SUPERNATURAL spin-off,” Pedowitz relates. “It really is in [executive producers] Jeremy Carver and Eric Kripke and Bob Singer’s court what is the best […]Read On »

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark A. Sheppard, Ruth Connell, Kathryn Love Newton, Roark Critchlow Writer: Andrew Dabb, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Guy Norman Bee Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: December 9, 2014 There’s a theme running through the SUPERNATURAL episode “The Things We Leave Behind.” Yes, the show often deals with family, but here it’s not just the Winchesters’ fraternal bond, but also their recollections of John, Castiel (Misha Collins) trying to cope with parental responsibility, and Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) trying to wrap his head around having his mother Rowena […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “Hibbing 911”

Kim Rhodes as Sheriff Jody Mills in SUPERNATURAL - Season 10 - "Hibbing 911" | ©2014 The CW/Katie Yu

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Morgan Taylor Campbell, Fred Ewanuick Writer: Jenny Klein, story by Jenny Klein & Phil Sgriccia, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Tim Andrew Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: December 2, 2014 SUPERNATURAL is clearly revving its mythology motor, ready to do some big stuff with Dean (Jensen Ackles) and the Mark of Cain he still bears. However, since this is a broadcast series with twenty-two episodes a season, it’s natural that sometimes the show falls back on monster of the week stories, which is fair enough – […]Read On »

Sheppard) mother. Even better, Robert Berens’ teleplay for “Girls, Girls, Girls” drops most of them in just […]Read On »

Jared Padalecki as Sam, Izabella Miko as Olivia, and Jensen Ackles as Dean in SUPERNATURAL - Season 10 - "Ask Jeeves" | ©2014 The CW/Michael Courtney

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Izabella Miko, Kevin McNulty, Gillian Vigman, Debra Lynne McCabe, Clare Filipow, Marcus Rosner Writers: Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, series created by Eric Kripke Director: John McCarthy Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: November 18, 2014 SUPERNATURAL goes from the sublime (the previous week’s “Fan Fiction”) to the serviceable with “Ask Jeeves,” a pastiche of CLUE and MURDER, SHE WROTE (visually and verbally name-checked here), with the addition of a monster. The best thing about “Ask Jeeves” – kudos to the editing department – may be the “Then” sequence, i.e., SUPERNATURAL’s catch-up […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “Fan Fiction”

Rachel Warkentin in SUPERNATURAL - Season 10 - "Fan Fiction" | ©2014 The CW/Katie Yu

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Katie Sarife, Joy Regullano, Alyssa Lynch, Rob Benedict Writer: Robbie Thompson, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Phil Sgriccia Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: November 11, 2014 This reviewer is not often moved to tears, either of hilarity or emotion, nor does she often give out the grade of A. However, in the case of SUPERNATURAL’s two-hundredth episode, “Fan Fiction,” the first occurred and the second is warranted. Written by Robbie Thompson and directed by Phil Sgriccia, what could have easily gone off the rails at every turn is instead hysterically […]Read On »
