Stars: Jon Cryer, Ashton Kutcher, Angus T. Jones, Conchatta Ferrell, Holland Tayler Writers: Don Reo & Jim Patterson, story by Chuck Lorre & Eddie Gorodetsky Director: James Widdoes Network: CBS Original Telecast: Sept. 27th, 2012 Now I can honestly say that I have given Ashton Kutcher more than a fair shot at salvaging TWO AND A HALF MEN. However, as his second season with the show begins (and the tenth overall), there is still a noticeable void in the show that can never be replaced by any actor. As one of the few who didn’t quite understand how Charlie Sheen […]Read On »

TV Review: REVOLUTION – Season 1 – “Chained Heat”

Tracy Spiridakos in REVOLUTION - Season 1 - "Chained Heat" | ©2012 NBC/John Domoney

Cast: Billy Burke, Tracy Spirdakos, Giancarlo Esposito, Zak Orth, David Lyons, Tim Guinee Writer: Eric Kripke Director: Charles Beeson Network: NBC, airs Mondays @ 10 p.m. Original Telecast: Sept. 24, 2012 Well things have certainly come to a grinding halt on REVOLUTION after a very impressive “Pilot” episode where it was wall to wall action and a whole handful of good ideas. “Chained Heat” isn’t nearly as good as the opening episode which seems to sometimes be the case with big opening episodes that are targeted to grab the viewers’ attention and then subsequently falter to deliver in the following […]Read On »

BEN AND KATE is a refreshingly funny, cute and quirky new show created by Dana Fox that is a perfect companion for Fox’s Tuesday night comedies RAISING HOPE and NEW GIRL. The series stars Dakota Johnson as Kate Fox a sweet young adult who made a big mistake right before graduating college – she got pregnant. Her daughter Maddie (Maggie […]Read On »

TV Review: THE NEIGHBORS – Season 1 – “Pilot” – Series Premiere

Ian Patrick, Tim Jo, Simon Templeman, Toks Olagundoye, Isabella Cramp, Jami Gertz, Lenny Venito, Clara Mamet, Max Charles in THE NEIGHBORS - Season 1 | ©2012 ABC/Bob D'Amico

Stars: Jami Gertz, Lenny Venito, Simon Templeman, Toks Olagundoye, Clara Mamet, Tim Jo, Ian Patrick, Max Charles, Isabella Cramp Writer: Dan Fogelman Director: Chris Koch Network: ABC, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: September 26, 2012 You can’t fault ABC for at least trying something new. Last year, they trotted out their cross-dressing comedy WORK IT (epic fail) and this year they’ve got THE NEIGHBORS, a terribly dated suburban alien comedy that falls completely flat. Ten years ago, a bunch of aliens from the planet Zabvron arrived in a gated New Jersey neighborhood to see if Earth could be inhabitable by […]Read On »

TV Review: SOUTH PARK – Season 16 – “Sarcastaball” – Premiere

Kenny, Butters, Kyle, Stan and Cartman in SOUTH PARK - Season 16 - "Sarcastaball" | ©2012 Comedy Central

Writer: Trey Parker Director: Trey Parker Network: Comedy Central, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: September 26, 2012 SOUTH PARK is back for the second half of Season 16, but sadly “Sarcastaball” is one of the weakest episodes of the season by far. Taking on the current topical subject of the NFL and the replacement referees that have been destroying the game, SOUTH PARK touches on things that have been mined to far better effect in other episodes and other seasons. When Randy finds out South Park Elementary is making school football “too safe”, he gets all sarcastic and starts suggesting […]Read On »

Paget Brewster guest-stars as New York district attorney Paula Foster. Brewster is just coming off playing FBI Special Agent Emily Prentiss on Seasons Two through Seven of CBS’s CRIMINAL MINDS, which begins its eighth season tonight at 9 PM. CD Review: THE WAR OF THE WORLDS soundtrack

THE WAR OF THE WORLDS soundtrack | ©2012 Intrada Records

Perhaps the finest purveyor of sci-fi and fantasy entertainment during the genre’s boomtown days of the 50’s and 60’s, George Pal’s films were just as distinguished for their epic visuals of proto-Bay destruction as they were for their musical grandeur, none more so than his apocalyptic classics THE WAR OF THE WORLDS and WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE. So it’s fitting that these two scores lead off a terrific Intrada compilation of early Pal-produced soundtracks, making for one of the most old school geek-tastic releases to be mined from the opening of the Paramount mountain. Where many of the era’s sci-fi scores […]Read On »

TV Review: THE MINDY PROJECT – Season 1 – “Pilot” – Series Premiere

Mindy Kaling in THE MINDY PROJECT - Season 1 | ©2012 Fox/Mary Ellen Matthews

Stars: Mindy Kaling, Chris Messina, Ed Weeks, Anna Camp, Zoe Jarman, Amanda Setton, Stephen Tabolowsky, Ike Barinholtz Writer: Mindy Kaling Director: Charles McDougall Network: Fox, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: September 25, 2012 Mindy Kaling is a love her or hate her performer. As a writer and actress on the long-running THE OFFICE, she was great in short spurts as the self-absorbed Kelly Kapoor. Now that’s she’s branched off and created a new series for herself with THE MINDY PROJECT, it’s clear Kaling is sometimes better in those small spurts. I know there are many people who absolutely love this […]Read On »

Stars: Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie Anne-Moss, Jason O’Mara, Taylor Handley, Sarah Jones Writers: Greg Walker & Nicholas Pileggi Director: James Mangold Network: CBS, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: September 26, 2012 As network TV tries desperately to keep up the pace with cable dramas, every once and awhile a network show will give cable a run for its money. This season it’s CBS with the exceptional VEGAS. From its feature film cast, its unconventionally storytelling ways and luscious good looks, this is one fabulous show and it can only get better from here. Written by Greg Walker and GOOD […]Read On »
