While reality show hits seem to wane and wax over the years, ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee says he expects DANCING WITH THE STARS to remain on the schedule for years to come. “Obviously each year the casting sometimes tells you where it’s going to come out. Although, I have to say we started with a weaker cast this year, and with J.R. [Martinez] winning it, it was a wonderful storyline,” says Lee. “Look how much THE BACHELOR has lasted and done so strongly for us. It’s romantic. It’s right in the heart of our brand, so I personally […]Read On »

CD Review: 2011’s Best Soundtracks: The Runners-Up and Composers to Watch

SUPER 8 soundtrack | ©2011 Varese Sarabande Records

It was hard to whittle down the year’s best scores to ten top picks, let alone ten runners-up. Here are the best of a close batch of scores that are far more than second-runs, followed up by the budding composers to watch. ALBERT NOBBS (Brian Byrne /, Varese Sarabande) Irish composer Brian Byrne takes up residence in 19th century Dublin for the upstairs/ downstairs cross-dressing-by-necessity of “Albert Nobbs.” While there’s a sprightly, Gaelic-accented classical sound to the happy-go-lucky strings and harpsichord that propels this not-so proper man of the hotel about, Byrne gradually looks behind the confident veneer to discover […]Read On »

TCA News: Fox wants to keep Ryan Seacrest on AMERICAN IDOL

Ryan Seacrest in AMERICAN IDOL - Season 10 | ©2011 Fox/Tony Duran

After watching THE X FACTOR host Steve Jones struggle throughout the first season, it became quite clear that Ryan Seacrest is a natural when it comes to handling contestants, overruns and political correctness on AMERICAN IDOL. This was not lost on Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly who says that job “is much harder than meets the idea.” “Everyone has come to value the idea of a Ryan Seacrest,” says Reilly. “It’s a very hard job to do.” The question is, how much is he worth? If Fox has it’s way, they definitely want to keep him in the IDOL fold, […]Read On »

For awhile, it looked like Fox and GLEE co-creator Ryan Murphy were going to spin-off the show with its graduating characters next season. At today’s Fox TCA press session, Entertainment President Kevin Reilly says those plans have been scrapped. “We are graduating the characters, but Ryan and the guys have come up with a cool idea,” says Reilly. “It’s led to a very interesting idea for something cool to dig into next season. That’s all I can say about it now. It’s going to set us up in the spring with a batch of episodes and into next year.” LET […]Read On »

Will FRINGE be back for a Season 5? That was one of the questions looming large during Fox’s TCA executive session where Entertainment President Kevin Reilly says he has a hard decision to make on the show in the coming weeks. “FRINGE has been a point of pride,” says Reilly. “I share the passion for the show as the fans have. Fox, having let down genre fans in the past, put one on [and kept it on]. I love that the fans stuck with us when it went to Friday nights. It vastly improved our Friday night. We have a […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: CHUCK star Scott Krinsky clears his head and looks back on the series

Scott Krinsky in CHUCK | ©NBC/Mitchell Haaseth

On NBC’s CHUCK, now on Friday nights at 8 PM as it winds up its fifth and final season, the title hero played by Zachary Levi is still juggling his Buy More workplace and his secret identity as a spy. The spy missions can be dangerous, even deadly, but they lack one menace found only at the Buy More – the team of Jeff Barnes and Lester Patel, played respectively by Scott Krinsky and Vik Sahay. Washington,D.C.native Krinsky’s background in standup comedy has served him well in his role as Jeff, who until earlier this season has been wandering around […]Read On »

Movie Review: THE INNKEEPERS

THE INNKEEPERS movie poster | ©2012 Magnet Releasing

Rating: R Stars: Sara Paxton, Pat Healy, Kelly McGillis Writer: Ti West Director: Ti West Distributor: Magnet Releasing Release Date: VOD, December 30, 2011; theatrical, February 3, 2012 Probably the most important aspect of THE INNKEEPERS is that it is effectively scary. Writer/director Ti West (HOUSE OF THE DEVIL) makes a virtue of the suspense that comes from a playful, naturalistic build-up – let us wait long enough and even the most mundane situation develops tension if we know something wicked this way comes. On the flip side, THE INNKEEPERS promises more in the way of plot, mystery and mythos […]Read On »

TV Review: CHUCK Season 5 “Vs. the Kept Man”

Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski in CHUCK - Season 5 | ©2011 NBC/Mitchell Haaseth

Stars: Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Adam Baldwin, Vik Sahay, Scott Krinsky, Mark Christopher Lawrence, Ryan McPartlin Network: NBC, Friday nights, 8 p.m. Original Telecast: January 7, 2011 I have to say that in spite of a rocky start, this season of CHUCK is building up nicely to its finale in a few weeks. With Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Gertrude Verbanski (Carrie-Anne Moss) dancing around matters of the heart – well, we all know Casey has one even if he doesn’t – this episode, “Chuck vs. the Kept Man,” makes it seem like most of the main cast members are going to get matched up […]Read On »
