Writer: Trey Parker Director: Trey Parker Network: Comedy Central, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: April 18, 2012 SOUTH PARK has been so weird and crazy during Season 16, it’s hard what to make of it week to week. Sometimes it’s really funny, other times it’s been getting really weird. And this week, it goes off-the-rails weird – so much so that even though it wasn’t that funny, it still was more interesting than just about anything else on TV this week. “I Should Have Never Gone Ziplining” is set up like one of those reality shows about horrible things happening […]Read On »

TV Review: SOUTH PARK – Season 16 – “Butterballs”

Mr. Mackey in SOUTH PARK - Season 16 - "Butterballs" | ©2012 Comedy Central

Writer: Trey Parker Director: Trey Parker Network: Comedy Central, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: April 11, 2012 Bouncing back from last week’s uneven “Jewpacabra,” SOUTH PARK kicks butt with “Butterballs”, a hilarious take on school bullying and the media’s exploitation of it. Some of this is directly tied to the documentary BULLY which just hit theaters and focuses on actual bullying happening in our public schools. One of the most obvious things creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone bring up with this episode is that by making a film about bullying and then putting the bullied kid as the face […]Read On »

TV Review: SOUTH PARK – Season 16 – “Jewpacabra”

Cartman in SOUTH PARK - Season 16 - "Jewpacabra" | ©2012 Comedy Central

Writer: Trey Parker Director: Trey Parker Network: Comedy Central, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: April 4, 2012 It figures SOUTH PARK would eventually deliver a clunker at some point during Season 16 and that honor goes to the ambitious, promising, but ultimately flat “Jewpacabra.” This will be known as the episode where Cartman finally becomes a Jew and understands Kyle’s pain, but a promising premise ultimately gets undermined by a lack of focus. In what starts off as another way for Cartman to ruin a holiday (namely Passover and Easter), Cartman invents the legend of the “Jewpacabra.” It’s under the […]Read On »

CD Review: THE THING (1982) soundtrack

THE THING soundtrack | ©2011 Buysoundtrax Records

No, we’re not talking about a stillborn prequel here, but the one and only. Jack-of-all-trades filmmaker John Carpenter had served as a writer-director-composer on all of his films until his first studio production of THE THING. It was a bigger budget that allowed Carpenter to get his composing idol Ennio Morricone to provide the director with his first “real” orchestral score. That didn’t mean that Carpenter and his “in association” collaborator Alan Howarth wouldn’t give THE THING’s soundtrack more teeth by sweetening it with the icily sharp electronics that marked the auteur’s distinctive brand of horror. The result was a […]Read On »

The 2011 EyeGore Awards were held at Universal Studios Hollywood on Friday night – just as Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights kicked off its annual haunted park event. They’re a bunch of goofballs, just like me.” Bailee Madison, the […]Read On »

Interview: NO ORDINARY FAMILY star Michael Chiklis becomes Super-Dad

Michael Chicklis in NO ORDINARY FAMILY - Season 1 | ©2010 ABC/Bob D'Amico

In ABC’s NO ORDINARY FAMILY, the Powells come back from vacation much less ordinary than when they left. Mother Stephanie (Julie Benz) has super-speed, young son J.J. (Jimmy Bennett) has super-intelligence and teenager Daphne (Kay Panabaker) can read minds. As for family father Jim, played by Michael Chiklis, he is suddenly strong enough to toss a car, muscular enough to leap on top of a building and hardy enough to stop bullets. Chiklis has been involved in the superhero genre before, playing Ben Grimm/Thing in the two big screen adaptations of  FANTASTIC FOUR. On television, he spent five years as […]Read On »
