Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland Writer:  Beth Schwartz & Andrew Kreisberg Director: Ken Fink Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: December 5, 2012 This week’s episode of ARROW focuses on the love life of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).  Now that Laurel Lance, (Katie Cassidy), the ex-girlfriend Oliver is not-so-secretly still in love with, is dating his best friend Tommy Merlyn, (Colin Donnell), the path is clear for him to start dating Helena Bertenelli, (Jessica De Gouw) the damaged daughter of a mob boss who’s also a gun-wielding vigilante […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “Legacies”

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland Writers: Moira Kirkland & Marc Guggenheim Director: John Behring Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: November 14, 2012 This week’s episode of ARROW, “Legacies,” has its moments, but mostly I experienced it as a missed opportunity.  After making some headway last week by revealing more of Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell’s) experiences as a left-for-dead castaway on the mysterious island, as well as illuminating more of the criminal conspiracy that surrounds Oliver’s mother Moira (Susanna Thompson), ARROW decided to leave both of those storylines […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “Damaged”

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland Writers: Wendy Mericle & Ben Sokolowski Director: Michael Schultz Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: November 7, 2012 Just when I was starting to get down on ARROW,  “Damaged” put things back on track. By emphasizing some of the show’s more interesting storylines and de-emphasizing it’s lesser elements, (i.e. tepid warehouse fight scenes with generic, disposable bad guys), ARROW has lived up to a lot more of its early potential this week. When we last saw Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) he was being […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “An Innocent Man”

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland Writers: Moira Kirkland & Lana Cho Director: Vince Mislano Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: October 31, 2012 Is vigilante justice ever a bad thing?  In the world of ARROW the answer to that question is, unambiguously, “No.”  Despite Detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) complaining incessantly about the dangers of the mysterious hooded vigilante, (whom no one in the series has yet addressed as either “Arrow” or “The Green Arrow”), this vigilante has so far never targeted the wrong person, nor done any […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “Lone Gunman”

Michael Rowe in ARROW - Season 1 - "Lone Gunman" | ©2012 The CW/Jack Rowand

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland Writers: Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim from a story by Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg Director: Guy Bee Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: October 24, 2012 “Lone Gunman” is the most satisfying and successful episode of ARROW to date, and yet it’s the episode that also reveals some of the show’s biggest limitations. Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) maintains a secret life as a vigilante superhero who pursues villains from a list of the most corrupt, wealthy residents of Starling City.  Once he’s […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “Honor Thy Father”

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland Writers: Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim from a story by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim Director: David Barrett Network: CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: October 17, 2012 ARROW is a show about a superhero who shoots people with arrows.  I’m not an emergency room physician, but I suspect that’s not a lot different than a superhero who shoots them with a gun or stabs them with a hunting knife.  Since most of the superheroes who dominate today’s movie and TV landscape don’t tend to […]Read On »

Sanders, Temuera Morrison, Clancy Brown Writers: Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, story by Berlanti & Green & Guggenheim Director: Martin Campbell Distributor: Warner Bros. Release Date: June 17, 2011 There is great dramatic tension onscreen in GREEN LANTERN. Unfortunately, it has almost nothing to do with the story.
