The Top Ten Gwen Stacy SPIDER-MAN comic Multiverse moments

Gwen Stacy from ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN | (C)Marvel Comics

In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN hitting theatres, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) doesn’t have a familiar red head as his number one squeeze. Mary Jane Watson is not the object of his affections this time around, and instead we have Peter’s first love from the comics Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). Gwen or Gwendy as she is often called was played by Bryce Dallas Howard in a sort of botched attempt to introduce the character into the film continuity in SPIDER-MAN 3, but that wasn’t the actress’s fault – that movie just had far too many problems. So now that new fans are […]Read On »

Getting a chance to move into the big budget superhero world of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN was a thrill for actress Emma Stone who tackles the iconic Gwen Stacy in the film reboot of the classic character. “You realize there is so much material when it comes to Spider-Man,” admits Stone, who had just came off THE HELP, which was also based on a book. “THE HELP was one big book, but this was 50 years of comic book material. While speaking to the press shortly before THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN panel at Wondercon 2012, director Marc Webb spoke about how different the new Spider-Man saga will be from the Sam Raimi trilogy that came before it. “There are elements of Spider-Man that’s universal,” says Webb. “He shoots his web and soars through the sky. He’s also a little guy who beats up guys bigger than him. I think for me, there were a few things in the SPIDER-MAN comics that were really interesting like the story of Peter’s parents and where he came from. I thought it was really interesting […]Read On »

I have to admit, my interest in the new THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN movie hasn’t been as rabid as my interest in the other superhero movies this summer (and you know who you are). Maybe it had to do with loving the Sam Raimi incarnation, or maybe it just felt that the Spider-Man world had been exhausted in the film world. Yet, today, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios offered up a special global sneak preview of the new film (opening July 3) with the filmmakers and actors in attendance in one of the many select cities across the globe so fans […]Read On »

Comic-Con 2011 News: Spider-Man will not be a part of any future THE AVENGERS movies according to producer Avi Arad

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #3 | ©2011 Marvel Comics

This one is a kind of a no-brainer, but for anyone wondering if the Spider-Man character would ever appear in a future THE AVENGERS team-up movie, don’t hold your breath. First of all, even though Marvel (and now Disney) owns the character, it’s currently licensed to Sony Pictures, which makes it harder to extract him for a movie at another studio. However, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN producer Avi Arad at a press event during Comic-Con 2011 says there’s another reason for not putting him a big movie like that either. “There’s the team-ups [in the comics] that keep the publishing going, […]Read On »

While at today’s 2011 Comic Con in San Diego, Andrew Garfield spoke to the press about finally taking over the role of Peter Parker aka Spider-man in the new reboot THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Having been a big fan since he was a kid, he loved the chance to be the poster boy for all skinny kids around the world who wish they could transform into a crime-fighting super hero. “I like the idea of a skinny kid beating up bad guys,” says Garfield. “It’s a dream of mine and what a way to do it so you can give other […]Read On »
