Movie Review: PRIVATE NUMBER

By ABBIE BERNSTEIN 05/04/2015
PRIVATE NUMBER | © 2015 ARC Entertainment

Rating: R Stars: Hal Ozsan, Nicholle Tom, Judd Nelson, Tom Sizemore, Gary McDonald Writer: LazRael Lison Director: LazRael Lison Distributor: ARC Entertainment/Summer House Pictures Release Date: Theatrical & VOD, May 1, 2015 PRIVATE NUMBER is one of those what’s-going-on-here thrillers that works as well as it does partly because writer/director LazRael Lison keeps us guessing most of the way through whether what’s happening is hallucinatory, supernatural, or some combination of the two. It also helps that the film has a sturdy leading man in Hal Ozsan, who is capable of the personality swings that the script demands. A prologue sequence […]Read On »

Stars: Noah Galloway, Robert Herjavec, Nastia Liukin, Riker Lynch, Chris Soules, Rumer Willis, Willow Shields Network: ABC, airs Mondays Original Telecast: April 27th, 2015 There is only one thing to say about tonight’s DANCING WITH THE STARS show – it was devastating, especially for Willow Shields & Mark Ballas who were prematurely ejected out at just week seven. The irony of it all is that after a dance off they were the highest scoring couple of the night. This is reminiscent of a prior shocker years ago also involving Ballas when he and partner Sabrina Bryan – said to be […]Read On »

Movie Review: THE HARVEST

By ABBIE BERNSTEIN
THE HARVEST movie poster | ©2015 IFC Midnight

Rating: Not Rated Stars: Samantha Morton, Michael Shannon, Natasha Calis, Charlie Tahan, Leslie Lyles, Peter Fonda, Meadow Williams, Nolan Lyons Writer: Stephen Lancellotti Director: John McNaughton Distributor: IFC Midnight Release Date: New York theatrical and VOD, April 10, 2015; Los Angeles theatrical, April 24, 2015 Too often, thrillers with child/young adult protagonists are either BAD SEED/THE OMEN-esque – nothing wrong with these, except that they tend toward the predictable – or the cleaned-up-to-the-point-of-anemia PG-13 model. THE HARVEST is neither. There are several points where we get a little ahead of where writer Stephen Lancelotti and director John McNaughton are leading […]Read On »

In Part 2 of our exclusive interview with Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot/the Penguin on Fox’s GOTHAM, the actor discusses the Oswald/Jim Gordon relationship, his work on THE WALKING DEAD and more. Read Part 1 here. AX: Oswald has a very complicated relationship with Gotham police detective Jim Gordon [Ben McKenzie]. How would you describe it? ROBIN LORD TAYLOR: Jim Gordon wouldn’t be in the place that he is now if he hadn’t saved my life, and it goes both ways. It’s classic, they need each other even though they’re complete enemies. I think deep down, he actually […]Read On »
