Movie Review: CHAPPIE

CHAPPIE | © 2015 Sony/Columbia

Dean (Jensen Ackles) smashes all electronics in SUPERNATURAL | © 2015 Diyah Pera/The CW

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Ali Milner, Barbara Kottmeier, Jeremy Thorsen Writers: Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, series created by Eric Kripke Director: John F. Showalter Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: February 10, 2015 Even on SUPERNATURAL, there have to be some episodes that are just so-so. Not great, not awful, not crazy, just the show doing what it does when nobody is feeling particularly inspired that week, though everyone is still perfectly competent. “Halt & Catch Fire” (not to be confused with the brilliant-every-episode AMC series of that title) is such an episode. Sam (Jared […]Read On »

Movie Review: FOCUS

FOCUS | © 2015 Warner Bros.

Rating: R Stars: Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Rodrigo Santoro, Adrian Martinez, Gerald McRaney, Brennan Brown, BD Wong Writers: Glenn Ficarra & John Requa Directors: Glenn Ficarra & John Requa Distributor: Warner Bros. Release Date: February 27, 2015 FOCUS begins in a way that primes us to expect one sort of movie, only to deliver another. Given that bait and switch and general con artistry is the business of its protagonist Nicky (Will Smith), this isn’t inappropriate, but it’s still somewhere between a little disconcerting and really disappointing, depending on how much one values certain elements. There are plenty of plot […]Read On »
