HOMELAND launched its first season in 2011. The series, which won an Outstanding Drama Emmy, as well as two Outstanding Lead Actress Emmys, two Outstanding Writing Emmys and more, is now in its eighth and final season Sundays on Showtime. In its first years, HOMELAND was a cat-and-mouse tug of war between returned prisoner-of-war military hero Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) and doggedly determined, bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), who was – correctly – convinced that Brody had been turned by his captors and was secretly a terrorist. Annie Wersching in RUNAWAYS - Season 1 | ©2019 Hulu

In MARVEL’S RUNAWAYS, now streaming its second season on Hulu (the first season is also available), things have heated up between the title teens and their parents. In Season 1, the title characters – six well-to-do Los Angeles area teenagers – discovered that some of them were geniuses and others had actual superpowers. They also learned that Pride, the supposedly charitable organization that all of their parents belonged to, was actually a nefarious cult that was engaging in some possibly world-ending activities. This caused our heroes to, per the title, run away. The situation among the parents was already pretty […]Read On »

In Season 4 of GOTHAM, Thursday nights on Fox, it appeared that young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) had killed Alexander Siddig’s character, the enigmatic and nefarious Ra’s al Ghul. However, this is GOTHAM, where the dead don’t always stay dead. Moreover, Siddig remains in the opening credits and has appeared in previews for future episodes, so it seems Ra’s isn’t done tormenting the future Batman just yet. The Sudan-born, English-educated Siddig has major genre cred. Siddig spent seven years as Dr. Julian Bashir in STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE. Other genre work includes REIGN OF FIRE (dragons), PRIMEVAL (dinosaurs), the […]Read On »

In THE HANDMAID’S TALE, now streaming its first ten-episode season on Hulu and renewed for a second, marriages have become very complicated. 24: LEGACY: EP Howard Gordon talks returning to the franchise – interview

Corey Hawkins stars in 24: LEGACY | © 2017 Guy D'Alema/FOX

Fox Network’s new Monday-night thriller 24: LEGACY is in some respects its own show. Corey Hawkins stars as military veteran Eric Carter, who begins working with the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) over the course of one intense day, rather than starting out as a seasoned CTU agent like Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer. But this is a legacy of the original 24, with some returning characters – like Carlos Bernard’s Tony Almeida – the same ticking-clock time frame, and a lot of the behind the scenes creative team once again in the driver’s seat. Among the returnees is executive producer Howard Gordon, […]Read On »
