Surprise – BIG MIRACLE, loosely based on an actual incident, manages to accomplish all of this and […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICAN IDOL – Season 11 – “Auditions No. 7: St. Louis”

Lauren Gray auditions in St. Louis, MO on AMERICAN IDOL - Season 11 | ©2012 Fox/Michael Becker

Cast: Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson Network: Fox, airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 8 p.m. Original Telecast: Feb. 2, 2012 Luckily for us, this is the last of the auditions on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL. The real show begins next week with Hollywood Week and hopefully we will get a similar treatment as we did last year where we get expanded coverage of the process as it is the most interesting part of the show – maybe even better than the individual performances when it gets to the Top 12. Not to beat […]Read On »

Movie Review: KILL LIST

KILL LIST movie poster | ©2012 IFC

Rating: Unrated Stars: Neil Maskell, Michael Smiley, MyAnna Buring, Emma Fryer, Harry Simpson, Struan Rodger Writers: Ben Wheatley & Amy Jump Director: Ben Wheatley Distributor: IFC Midnight Release Date: VOD January 4, 2012; theatrical February 3, 2012 There are great things, good things and unfortunate things about KILL LIST. The performances by leads Neil Maskell and Michael Smiley are gloriously naturalistic; we might be sitting next to a pair of good mates in a pub somewhere as they banter, argue and wax philosophical. The dialogue is similarly lifelike. On the downside, there’s some reinvention of the wheel here horror movie-wise. […]Read On »

CD Review: Foxy Shazam – THE CHURCH OF ROCK AND ROLL

Foxy Shazam - THE CHURCH OF ROCK AND ROLL | ©2012 I.R.S. Records

Distributor: I.R.S. Records Suggested Retail Price: $9.98 With so many bands refusing or unable to pay at the “Church of Rock and Roll”, it’s refreshing that Foxy Shazam isn’t afraid to dive in head-first with their fourth album, dubbed appropriately enough, THE CHURCH OF ROCK AND ROLL. While the Cincinnatti, OH band’s previous releases definitely had the hooks and in many cases, comparisons to Queen rock and bombast, it’s their latest release that truly showcases their hard-rockin’ roots, mainstream ambitions and Glam swagger. Produced by Justin Hawkins, frontman for the criminally underrated hard rock band The Darkness, there’s definitely some […]Read On »

Exclusive: TRUE BLOOD star Lara Pulver would like Claudine the fairy to come back to the HBO series

Lara Pulver in TRUE BLOOD - Season 4 | ©2011 HBO/John P. Johnson

Lara Pulver is no stranger to genre television viewers. Her roles on BBC America’s ROBIN HOOD, MI-5, and HBO’s TRUE BLOOD have made her a familiar face. Of course fans of TRUE BLOOD that have read the original Charlaine Harris books were more than a little dismayed that Pulver’s character Claudine Crane the fairy was brutally killed by Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) last season. However, while she was promoting a new season of PBS’ SHERLOCK she said she might be able to come back to TRUE BLOOD in the new year. “It wouldn’t surprise me if she appears as some […]Read On »

So put your feet up, grab some popcorn and check out this week’s selections. On one hand, I really enjoy the nostalgia aspect with the film focusing on the Norwegian Antarctic camp that […]Read On »

CD Review: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL soundtrack

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL soundtrack | ©2011 Varese Sarabande Records

Of all the television knock-offs that James Bond inspired during the height of the 007 craze in the 1960’s, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE was the spy show that ingrained itself in the public consciousness like no other. Creator Bruce Geller took the Bond franchise’s ever-increasing love of futuristic gadgets to the next techno-fetish level, with the unusual caveat of having its agents rely far more on their brainpower than seductive fisticuffs to take down the villains. And no small amount of IMPOSSIBLE’s iconic staying power through multiple TV revamps was due to the Lalo Schifrin theme, a white-hot jazz countdown that varied […]Read On »

TV Review: BEING HUMAN – Season 2 – “All Out of Blood”

Sam Huntington in BEING HUMAN - Season 2 - "All Out of Blood" | ©2012 Syfy/Philippe Bosse

Stars: Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington, Kristen Hagen, Natalie Brown, Susanna Fournier Writer: Chris Dingess, adapted for U.S. television by Jeremy Carver & Anna Fricke, created for U.K. television by Toby Whithouse Director: Paolo Barzman Network: Syfy, Mondays @ 9 PM Airdate: January 30, 2012 The BEING HUMAN episode “All Out of Blood” deals, per its title, with vampire Aidan (Sam Witwer) encountering some unplanned dietary problems, but the real strength here are some surprising and intriguing additions to the ghost mythology. On the downside, it’s becoming a matter of some suspense just how much more whining and sulking […]Read On »

TV Review: GLEE – Season 3 – “Michael”

Darren Criss in GLEE - Season 3 - "Michael" | ©2012 Fox/Justin Lubin

Stars: Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Mark Salling, Harry Shum Jr., Jenna Ushkowitz Writer: Ryan Murphy Director: Alfonso Gomez-Rejon Network: Fox, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: January 31, 2012 As far as ratings stunts go, “theme episodes” on GLEE are usually pretty impressive ratings getters. They’re also a breeze, writing-wise, since there’s so much effort put into cramming in more than the normal allotment of music in the episode, there’s less time to really flesh out the story elements as well […]Read On »

Exclusive Photos from the Michael Jackson Hand and Footprint Ceremony

On January 26th, THE ESTATE OF MICHAEL JACKSON held a special HAND & FOOTPRINT CEREMONY for THE KING OF POP at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.  Hollywood Boulevard was shut down to accommodate the thousands of fans who came to be a part of this special event. Michael Jackson’s three children, Prince, Paris and Blanket used their father’s sequined glove and shoes to make impressions in the cement, and Paris signed Michael’s name, with a heart in the cement, and then adding their own handprints by the shoe imprint. Joining Michael’s children was Katherine Jackson, Jackie Jackson, Tito Jackson, Smokey […]Read On »
