THE CARRIE DIARIES, on the CW Monday nights at 8 PM, is a prequel to SEX AND THE CITY. It’s 1984 and our heroine Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb, playing the younger self of the character first portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker) is still in high school as she begins to have early adventures in Manhattan. Teen Carrie’s mentor in fashion is Interview Magazine style editor, English expatriate Larissa Loughlin, played by Freema Agyeman. Agyeman, who was raised in North London, is probably best known for playing Doctor’s Companion Martha Jones on DOCTOR WHO opposite David Tennant, reprising the character on […]Read On »

TV Review – THE CARRIE DIARIES – Season 1 – “Lie With Me”

AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie in THE CARRIE DIARIES "Lie With Me" | (c) 2013 Craig Blankenhorn/The CW

Stars: AnnaSophia Robb, Austin Butler, Ellen Wong, Katie Findlay, Stefania Owen, Brendan Dooling, Chloe Bridges, Freema Agyeman, Matthew Letscher Writer: Amy B. Harris Director: Alfonso Gomez-Rejon Network: The CW Original Telecast: Jan. 21st, 2013 Sadly, it’s not getting any better. Week two of THE CARRIE DIARIES is as hopeless and lacking in authenticity as the show’s pilot last week.  To say this week’s episode “Lie with Me” did nothing to salvage the show’s integrity is like saying that Carrie Bradshaw kinda likes her Manolo Blahniks. Still puzzling more than annoying, the show is written across the board for a nonexistent […]Read On »

Stars: AnnaSophia Robb, Austin Butler, Ellen Wong, Katie Findlay, Stefania Owen, Brendan Dooling, Chloe Bridges, Freema Agyeman, Matthew Letscher Writer: Amy B. Harris Director: Miguel Arteta Network: CW Original Telecast: Jan. 14th, 2013 As a fan of SEX AND THE CITY no one could be more excited to see a new extraction from that series, until well, I actually did see that painful extraction. THE CARRIE DIARIES has no semblance to SEX and the characters are as abstract as they come. The show is a prequel and takes place in 1984 during the beginning of Carrie Bradshaw’s (AnnaSophia Robb) junior […]Read On »

SEX IN THE CITY was a huge cultural phenomenon and a major break-out success for HBO. Now, the prequel THE CARRIE DIARIES is landing at The CW this winter based on the Candace Bushnell book and focusing on Carrie Bradshaw’s high school years. AnnaSophia Robb plays the iconographic Carrie, and she was well of the big high heels she had to fill. “When I landed the role, I remember having a conversation with [showrunner] Amy [B. Harris who said] ‘we don’t want you to emulate Sarah Jessica Parker’s performance,” says Robb. “I loved the show SEX IN THE CITY. I […]Read On »
