As is often the case, all hell is breaking loose on AGENTS OF SHIELD, Tuesday nights on ABC. As the fourth season ramps up toward its finale, Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) and Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) are trapped in the computer-created artificial world of the Framework, along with virtually everyone they know. The difference is that Daisy and Jemma remember who they are in the real world. Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), top S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and former director of the organization, thinks he’s a high school teacher who’s new to espionage. S.H.I.E.L.D. director Jeffrey Mace (Jason O’Mara) has just been murdered […]Read On »

On ABC’s MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD, now in its second season Tuesdays at 9 PM, all of the characters are in the midst of crisis. S.H.I.E.L.D. director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) was appointed by previous director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), but since almost nobody knows this, Coulson can’t say this to alternate shield director Robert Gonzalez (Edward James Olmos), who thinks Coulson has gone rogue. Coulson’s protégé Skye (Chloe Bennet) has found that she has genetic superpowers that allow her to create earthquakes and scare the hell out of her. On ABC’s freshman eight-episode series MARVEL’S AGENT CARTER, Tuesdays at 9 PM, we’re with the resourceful Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) just after the end of World War II. Carter is part of the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR). Carter is the SSR’s most valuable asset, a fact that is lost on most of her male colleagues. No matter – Carter has no problem saving the day without credit. A good thing, too, as SSR will one day become S.H.I.E.L.D., which is explored in the present day in MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD (which will resume its second season when Season 1 […]Read On »

In Season 2 of MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD, ABC Tuesdays at 9 PM, there’s some new kind of havoc around every corner. Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, was resurrected after his big-screen death in MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, and is now running the beleaguered S.H.I.E.L.D. It turned out that one of Coulson’s trusted agents, Grant Ward, played by Brett Dalton, was really part of the fascistic Hydra organization. Worse, Ward has just escaped, but he remains entranced by Skye, played by Chloe Bennet. Skye is Bennet’s first regular series role. When we met her character at the beginning of SHIELD’s […]Read On »

In ABC’s MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD, now in its second season Tuesday nights at 9, a lot has changed since the series began its first year. The show, adapted by Joss Whedon & Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen from the Marvel comics, is intimately tied in with the Marvel film universe, so when Hydra agents emerged to wreak havoc with S.H.I.E.L.D. from within during the big screen’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, all hell immediately also broke loose on AGENTS. In the aftermath, it turned out that team member Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) was a Hydra mole. Team chief Phil […]Read On »

The S.H.I.E.L.D. agency was attacked from within by the group Hydra, whose operatives turned out to have been inside S.H.I.E.L.D. since its inception in World War II. Exclusive Interview: J. August Richards on MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD – Part 1

J. August Richards in MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD - Season 1 - "End of the Beginning" | © 2014 ABC/Kelsey McNeal

Viewers of ABC’s MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD, in its first season Tuesdays at 8 PM, were dealt a huge shock with the episode “Turn, Turn, Turn.” Airing just after the theatrical release of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, it dealt (like SOLDIER) with the revelation that S.H.I.E.L.D. had from its inception been infiltrated by the proto-Nazi organization HYDRA, which has now revealed itself and is wreaking havoc. This is terrible for the series regulars – team leader Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Skye (Chloe Bennet), who’ve […]Read On »
