They wouldn’t have put on this whole dog and pony show on MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD otherwise. The entire episode of “A Fractured House” was just a big set up to get him out of the basement of S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ and put him once again as a player on the show. Now, whether […]Read On »

If this show needed a strong female character that isn’t wrapped up in daddy issues or constantly pining for her boss to get back to being the old guy she used to know it is MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD. Palicki, for those uninitiated, is hot-as-balls. She was originally found in the great NBC series FRIDAY NIGHT […]Read On »

Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic in CASTLE - Season 7 | ©2014 ABC/Bob D'Amico

When last we saw Nathan Fillion’s best-selling novelist Richard Castle in the Season 6 finale of ABC’s CASTLE, he was forced off the road and into a fiery crash while on the way to his own wedding. Much of the audience was almost as aghast as Castle’s bride-to-be, NYPD homicide detective Kate Beckett, played by Stana Katic. CASTLE begins its seventh season Monday, September 29 at 10 PM. Series creator Andrew W. Marlowe and his fellow executive producer, show runner David Amann, are at a party thrown by ABC for its show runners and the Television Critics Association, where they […]Read On »

Movie Review: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY | © 2014 Walt Disney Pictures/Marvel

Rating: PG-13 Stars: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan Writers: James Gunn and Nicole Perlman, based on the comic books by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning Director: James Gunn Distributor: Walt Disney Pictures/Marvel Release Date: August 1, 2014 For a while, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY teeters on an edge. Yes, the visuals are striking and the jokes are funny, but at first, between self-centered thief Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), extremely angry Gamora (Zoe Saldana), dismissive genetically-modified raccoon Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and walking tree-of-few-words Groot (Vin Diesel), we’re not […]Read On »

CD Review: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER soundtrack

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER soundtrack | ©2014 Intrada Records

Where most Marvel movie scores have been sure to couch their metal musical exosuits in warmly approachable orchestral flesh, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is the first comic book score from the studio to truly do a Terminator number on its listeners for a significant chunk of time, going for hammering, stripped-down percussion and nail-on-chalkboard effects, a cold, troubling sound even crazier than the kind of ultra-beat scoring you’d normally get for scores featuring such assassin-turned-heroes as Jason Bourne. However, we’re talking about a hero-turned-assassin in THE WINTER SOLDIER, which is more than justification for Henry Jackman to come up […]Read On »

August Richards, the actor talks more about his work on MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD (ABC, Tuesdays at 8 PM) as the character Mike Peterson/Deathlok, plus his writing/directing project THE HYPNOTIST. ASSIGNMENT X: When you were on ANGEL, the producers were worried about spoilers, but it seems you’ve achieved a whole new level of security clearance working for Marvel. What is it like dealing with that kind of secrecy? J. AUGUST RICHARDS: Having to deal with Marvel security has introduced a phrase into my vocabulary that I now overuse. For example, […]Read On »

Coulson was tragically killed by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in writer/director Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS, but he’s back as the team leader on ABC’s AGENTS OF SHIELD, Tuesdays at 8 PM. As viewers of the TV show, created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, learned in the episode “The Magical Place,” Coulson’s resurrection was agonizing, with consequences […]Read On »

CD Review: THOR: THE DARK WORLD soundtrack

THOR: THE DARK WORLD soundtrack | ©2013 Intrada Records

Back in the comic book day, The House of Ideas teamed The Thing with a guest superhero star of the month for Marvel-Two-in-One. That series’ consistent match-up of four-color brawn has now been musically equaled in the space of one year by Brian Tyler, who follows up his entry into Marvel’s cinematic universe for IRON MAN 3 with even more powerfully potent results in THOR: THE DARK WORLD. But while it might not necessarily be an even match comparing a playboy in a souped-up suit of armor with an alien-Norse demigod, the evil elf-sponsored end of the universe versus an […]Read On »
