THE STRAIN wraps up its four-season run on FX this Sunday, September 17. Near the end of Season 3, the Master had taken over the body of billionaire Eldritch Palmer, played by Jonathan Hyde, who had been financing the vampire’s world conquest for his own (now thwarted) reasons. The Master is opposed by a small but dedicated band of humans. Dr Ephraim […]Read On »

CD Review: BATES MOTEL and PENNY DREADFUL soundtracks

PENNY DREADFUL soundtrack | ©2014 Varese Sarabande Records

Two cable hits have been busy re-inventing everyone’s favorite Mama’s boy and band of Edwardian monster hunters. But leave it to Chris Bacon and Abel Korzeniowski to make these often horrific exploits go down with orchestral elegance. For Bacon, it’s realizing that melodic empathy is the room key to loving Norman Bates as much as his mom, tenderness that suffuses his often beautiful, lush score to BATES MOTEL. Yet the spirit of Bernard Herrmann certainly inhabits this abode, not in stormily gothic (or stabbing) violins, but in BATES‘ long, drifting string lines and sympathetic piano. While there’s effectively uptempo percussion, […]Read On »

Exclusive Photos from the BATES MOTEL Premiere Party

Bates Motel Cast: L - R Nestor Carbonell, Nicole Peltz, Olivia Cooke, Freddie Highmore, Vera Farmiga, and Max Thieriot at the A&E Network premieres BATES MOTEL | ©2013 Sue Schneider

A&E Network held a premiere party for their new series BATES MOTEL on March 12th at SoHo House West Hollywood. BATES MOTEL is inspired by Hitchcock’s film, PSYCHO and we all remember the shower scene in that film…hard to forget. This is a prequel that will explain how Norman Bates became the Norman Bates of the film. How his psyche unravels through his teenage years and about his relationship with his mother Norma. The red carpet was in the parking garage of the building and all I can say it was really hot even though it was cold outside. Walking […]Read On »

News: The scoop on the new BATES MOTEL TV series – TCA 2013

Freddie Highmore in BATES MOTEL - Season 1 | ©2012 A&E

When A&E announced they were going to do a PSYCHO prequel series called BATES MOTEL, it was questionable whether such an iconic character could be reinvented once again (anyone remember the 1998 Gus Van Sant shot-for-shot remake?) However, with the great new previews and an excellent pilot episode, the Carlton Cuse (LOST) executive produced series is as epic and cinematic as you can get with Vera Farmiga playing the domineering Norma Bates and Freddie Highmore playing her jittery high school son Norman. At today’s Winter 2013 Cable TCA’s, Cuse revealed more details about BATES MOTEL and what to expect. Most […]Read On »
