THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman, Manu Bennett Writer:   Bryan Q. Miller & Lindsey Allen Director: Michael Offer Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: April 3, 2013 This week’s episode of ARROW doesn’t bludgeon us with unrelenting bleakness the way last week’s did.  In fact, “Unfinished Business” is a fairly slight episode overall, and most of it doesn’t leave much of an impression.  But one thing it did do quite well is continue the difficult conversation it began earlier about the appropriate […]Read On »

CD Review: STOKER soundtrack

STOKER soundtrack | ©2013 Milan Records

With his creepily rhythmic fusion of orchestra, rock and electronics, Clint Mansell had been a go-to guy when it comes to capturing a building sense of psychosis, whether it’s cutting-edge synth mad science in PI and MOON, Middle Eastern music possessing a serial killer artist in SUSPECT ZERO, or the cool strings for the teen thrill killers in MURDER BY NUMBERS. But it was Mansell’s ever-more insane twisting of Tchaikovsky for a BLACK SWAN ballerina that really made him a go-to guy for women on the verge of a nervous breakdown. For STOKER, Mansell applies a slightly more groovy classical […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: Freema Agyeman talks THE CARRIE DIARIES and DOCTOR WHO

THE CW logo | ©The CW

THE CARRIE DIARIES, on the CW Monday nights at 8 PM, is a prequel to SEX AND THE CITY. It’s 1984 and our heroine Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb, playing the younger self of the character first portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker) is still in high school as she begins to have early adventures in Manhattan. Teen Carrie’s mentor in fashion is Interview Magazine style editor, English expatriate Larissa Loughlin, played by Freema Agyeman. Agyeman, who was raised in North London, is probably best known for playing Doctor’s Companion Martha Jones on DOCTOR WHO opposite David Tennant, reprising the character on […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: Bill Irwin wakes up MONDAY MORNINGS

Bill Irwin in MONDAY MORNINGS - Season 1 | ©2013 TNT/Martin Schoeller

On TNT’s MONDAY MORNINGS, TNT Monday nights at 10 PM, the show centers around a hospital’s weekly Morbidity and Mortality meetings. Bill Irwin’s character Dr. Buck Tierney is often the focus of these meetings, as so many of his patients die that his colleagues have nicknamed him “007,” suggesting a license to kill. Irwin, a native of Santa Monica, California, would seem to have a license to do theatre. He’s a graduate of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College (yes, this is a real institution). As an actor, Irwin won a Tony Award for his portrayal of Martin in the 2005 […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “Salvation”

THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman, Manu Bennett Writer:  Drew Z. Greenberg & Wendy Mericle Director: Nick Copus Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: March 27, 2013 ARROW gets dark this week.  In the past ARROW had softened the edges around its rough premise, (a vigilante targets people whose names appear on a list and forces them to confess their assumed crimes to the authorities or face pointy, pointy death).  Usually this darkness was kept at bay by sprinkling in some comic […]Read On »

Open Road Films held the World Premiere for THE HOST on March 19th at the ArcLight Hollywood Cinerama Dome. Fans were across from where I shot, and on risers and over by the door of the theatre. Subway gave sandwiches out to all the media, fans, stars and everyone else that walked the carpet. T-shirts were handed out to the fans as they waited patiently to get a picture with their favorites and an autograph. THE HOST is a love story from Stephenie Meyer, the creator of the TWILIGHT SAGA, but this time it’s about an unseen enemy threatening mankind […]Read On »

THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman, Manu Bennett, Janina Gavankar Writer:  Jake Coburn & Lana Cho Director: Guy Bee Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: March 21, 2013 ARROW takes a break from its major storyline involving the list of Starling City’s criminals this week and instead spends an episode focusing on the love life of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).  Fortunately, the story of Oliver’s love life also involves crossbow murders and motorcycle chases, so “The Huntress Returns” doesn’t represent much of […]Read On »

CD Review: HOUSE OF CARDS soundtrack

HOUSE OF CARDS soundtrack | ©2013 Varese Sarabande Records

Though he’s relatively young, it seems that composer Jeff Beal has been at TV series like FAMILY LAW, ROME, UGLY BETTY and MONK with the entrenched dependability of a continuously elected senator. If that’s an apt metaphor, then it’s no wonder that HOUSE OF CARDS just might end up being Beal’s biggest hit in the medium- even if the “network” it’s on happens to be Netflix. You might also find it hard to believe that the English came up with the idea first for such a distinctly American show about a devious politician out to step up the broken ladder […]Read On »

TV Review: CASTLE – Season 5 – “Scared to Death”

Nathan Fillion as Castle on CASTLE "Recoil" | (c) 2013 ABC/COLLEEN HAYES

Stars: Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, Susan Sullivan, Molly Quinn, Tamala Jones, Seamus Deaver, Jon Huertas, Penny Johnson Jerald Writer:  Shalisha Francis Director: Ron Underwood Network: ABC, Monday nights, 10 p.m. Original Telecast: March 18, 2013 Let’s be real. CASTLE is never going get it right regarding police procedure. The writers routinely screw up the real world facts in favor of a cool connection, and most of the time we don’t really mind because we know going in this is not about accuracy, it’s about fun. In “Scared to Death,” we get plenty of the amusement factor – which is why this didn’t get a lower […]Read On »
