The actor from Oakland, California – first name pronounced Mah-HER-shah-lah – has a Golden Globe nomination and Oscar buzz for his performance as a compassionate drug dealer in the film MOONLIGHT. Ali also plays the love interest of Taraji P. Henson’s NASA math genius Katherine Johnson in HIDDEN FIGURES. Marsai Martin plays younger daughter Diane Johnson on ABC’s half-hour comedy BLACK-ISH. The universe shrank a little today, December 27, with the loss of Carrie Fisher, age 60. The cause of death appears to have been complications following a heart attack. Fisher was a renowned writer of both memoirs and novels, an in-demand script doctor, a hilarious raconteur, and a passionate advocate for the rights of women and those grappling with mental health issues.
