In IFC’s animated series OUT THERE, which airs new episodes Fridays at 10 PM, creator Ryan Quincy has envisioned a small town where much of the populace is strangely furry – he has said his artwork is influenced by Dr. Seuss and Maurice Sendak. John DiMaggio voices several OUT THERE characters, chief among them Wayne. The New Jersey-born actor is a star in the animation voice performance world, playing Bender on FUTURAMA, plus characters in WRECK-IT RALPH, TANGLED, the TV series THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR, various iterations of BEN 10, BATMAN, SPIDERMAN and a host of other projects. He takes …Read On »
In ABC’s freshman comedy series THE NEIGHBORS, Wednesdays at 8:30 PM, the Weaver family, headed up by mom Debbie (Jami Gertz) and dad Marty (Lenny Venito), move to an idyllic-looking suburban development – that turns out to be entirely populated by aliens stuck on this planet after they’ve lost their ability to return to home planet Zabvron. The aliens take their names from human sports celebrities, so the Weavers’ next-door neighbors – and tentative new friends – are dubbed Larry Bird (Simon Templeman) and Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundouye). The results are multiculturalism at a wider range than mere terrestrial folks …Read On »

Rapunzel let down her hair, finally (and in 3-D) as Disney held the World Premiere of their new animated film TANGLED at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California. It was a long backdrop that was painted to look like Rapunzel’s hair. Wigs were handed out to some of the photographers, myself included and we wore them while shooting. Mandy Moore (Rapunzel) and Zachary Levi (Flynn Rider) posed with us as the photographers on the carpet shot our photos. It was fun, except that the long wig kept catching on everything! Walking the carpet were the stars of the film, …Read On »
One of the most delicious aspects of the new hit Disney animated film TANGLED was the creation of Mother Gothel. Stealing away Rapunzel from her Royal parents at a young age (so she could tap into the girl’s magical hair to stay young forever), Gothel is a wonderful creation filled with malicious intent, mass contradictions, misguided motherly love and of course, the expert knack for breaking into show-stopping songs. Breathing the character to life vocally is Broadway actress Donna Murphy (SPIDER-MAN 2, STAR TREK: INSURRECTION) who talked with ASSIGNMENT X in this exclusive interview about the Disney process and her …Read On »
For a film based on the classic Brothers Grimm story RAPUNZEL, the end result of TANGLED (opening today) is anything but grim. Bright, cheerful and full of bright-eyed expressive characters, the Disney film’s animation supervisor John Kahrs brought a whole new look and layer to the classic Disney princess genre. More RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK than THE LITTLE MERMAID, the film is filled with two strong leads (Rapunzel and her swashbuckling love interest Flynn Rider) and two great sidekicks (a chameleon named Pascal and a blood-hound horse named Maximus). In an exclusive interview with ASSIGNMENT X, Kahrs spoke about …Read On »
For those jonesing for an animated Disney fairytale in the traditional style, or just a fun film that can be shared with the kids, TANGLED fills the bill. Quick, to the point and entirely enjoyable, TANGLED takes the traditional Grimm story, gives it some action and the title princess some gumption and takes off in beautiful style, looking much like the old enchanted films of yore, with 3D that brings up a couple of moving moments and is otherwise unobtrusive.
