At today’s press conference for THOR, newcomer Chris Hemsworth, who plays the mighty title character from the Marvel comics, revealed that the only pressures he put on himself with the film was to make it great. “The pressures of any film is to do a great performance and make a great film,” says Hemsworth. “So far, we’re getting great feedback and a great response to it. The Dork Side: Let’s blame everything on TEEN MOM

TEEN MOM logo | ©2011 MTV

Of course, the big news this week is that I’m knocked up. Yes, The Dork Side is going to have a spawn. I blame MTV’s TEEN MOM. They make it all look so glamorous. I do not foresee this whole pregnancy thing affecting The Dork Side. Maybe I’m wrong. Perhaps a year from now this column will be all about YO GABBA GABBA and SESAME STREET. In the meantime, it’s time to let the snark out of her cage: * I guess there is no such thing as bad publicity. Singer-turned-violent-douchebag Chris Brown’s album debuted at No. 1 on the […]Read On »

Accomplished actress Barbara Hershey is no stranger to psychological thrillers. CD Review: NO STRINGS ATTACHED soundtrack

No Strings Attached Score soundtrack | ©2011 Lakeshore Records

For a manly composer, John Debney has frequently been called upon to sound like a honey-haired escort, no doubt due to his talent for effortlessly conjuring the sweet, heavily-stringed romantic vibe that spells “chick flick” score at the box office. Yet Debney’s rapidly been showing the town he’s a jack-of-all-trades, especially with last year’s zanily ferocious scores to PREDATORS and MACHETE. So it’s equally no surprise that Debney can devolve his rom-com sound to the mid-20’s age of NO STRINGS ATTACHED’s likable bed-hoppers, and sound more authentically creative than ever in the genre. The same thing can be said for […]Read On »

THE KING'S SPEECH wins Best Picture at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 27, 2011 | ©2011 A.M.P.A.S.

There’s not much to say about the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, except that as much as they promised to be young and hip by hiring James Franco and Anne Hathaway to host, it was still the same old Academy Awards. Translation: few surprises, a dearth of actual laughs and predominantly canned speeches lacking any emotion or wit. That said, THE KING’S SPEECH took home the Best Picture title, while frontrunners Colin Firth won for Best Actor in SPEECH and Natalie Portman for Best Actress in BLACK SWAN. The full list of winners are below … Best Picture Iain Canning, Emile […]Read On »
