With the next THE AVENGERS movie awhile off, Marvel Studios is dusting off another superhero team movie for one of their next films. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY features the characters Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon and Phyla Vell who routinely battle Thanos (who made an appearance at the end of THE AVENGERS). At Comic-Con, Marvel not only announced a release date, but also provided a logo and the first bit of conceptual art. Sounds very, very different and potentially very, very cool. Can’t wait for the director battles to begin on this one. To check out higher […]Read On »

Comic-Con News: Michelle Williams says she would consider a DAWSON’S CREEK reunion movie

While promoting her new film OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, Michelle Williams was asked by the press whether she would consider doing a DAWSON’S CREEK reunion movie where she played Jen Lindley from 1998 to 2003. Her response is quite surprising. “I would,” she admits. “I’d very happily do a reunion show, but I don’t know what it would be since my character died in the end. There are certain limitations – either I come back as a ghost or you film me through a gauzy lens in flashbacks as my 19-year old self. I would love to. Independently, we’ve […]Read On »

Movie Review: THE PACT

THE PACT movie poster | ©2012 IFC Midnight

Rating: R Stars: Caity Lotz, Kathleen Rose Perkins, Haley Hudson, Sam Ball, Mark Steger, Agnes Bruckner, Casper Van Dien Writer: Nicholas McCarthy Director: Nicholas McCarthy Distributor: IFC Midnight Release Date: July 6, 2012 THE PACT turns out to be a scary low-budget horror movie that combines two different sorts of mythology, producing a few twists we haven’t seen before. It must be said that the film gets off to an uneven beginning. In the opening sequences, we can anticipate what the characters will say and what will happen, not because this is a meta-comment on what we’re watching, but because […]Read On »

Interview: Cameron Diaz chats about WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING

Cameron Diaz has played everyone from kick-ass heroine in the CHARLIE’S ANGELS movies to a terrible teacher in BAD TEACHER. However, playing a pregnant woman was brand new to her in her new comedy WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING (based on the best-selling book of the same name). In the film she’s a weight loss fitness show host and a contestant on a DANCING WITH THE STARS-esque series who is paired up with GLEE’s Matthew Morrison as one of the many baby-making couples in the movie. “I was so lucky to be able to, you know, be [Matthew’s] partner […]Read On »

Interview: STRAW DOGS composer Larry Groupe takes aim at the Peckinpah classic

Composer Larry Groupe | © 2011 Larry Groupe

We might primally root for him to take down a bunch of barbaric English yahoos. Yet as Sam Peckinpah’s violent parable STRAW DOGS more than pointed out in 1972, there’s little glory to be had by a seeming milquetoast in the middle of a home invasion. You could imagine the same reaction of a composer tasked with re-scoring the action that Jerry Fielding so memorably wrote for that iconic picture. But like the broken-spectacled mathematician who proves himself a he-man in the face of impossible odds, Larry Groupé weathers the potential brickbats, boiling oil and bullet to successfully score his […]Read On »

Voices: Vincent Martella, Ashley Tisdale, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Dan Povenmire, Jeff “Swampy” Marsh Distributor: Walt Disney Home Entertainment Suggested Retail Price: $26.99 One of the hardest things to create is an animated kid’s show that not only appeals to adults but children. And while the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon have had their fare of moderate successes, only Nickelodeon has had long-player SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS that transcended from mere phenomenon to a legitimate hit that’s still going strong 12 years later. Still, Disney Channel keeps trying and they finally cracked the formula with the four-year old animated series PHINEAS AND FERB about two […]Read On »

Creator and writer Bryan Fuller at WonderCon 2011 | ©2011 Assignment X/Peter Brown Bryan Fuller’s baby PUSHING DAISIES only lasted two seasons on ABC and one could argue at the treatment it received during that second season. However, he isn’t saying goodbye just yet and would love to have it appear on another network at some point. “I am really emboldened by what Starz is doing with TORCHWOOD and I would love to do a PUSHING DAISIES mini-series on Starz,” Fuller says. “This would be a great way to wrap up the show properly.
