Adapted from Terry Brooks’ best-selling fantasy novel series, MTV’s THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES, Tuesdays at 10 PM, is set thousands of years in the future, when humans are subservient to elves and all are doomed unless it’s possible to stem the flow of demons from another realm into this one. Jonathan Liebesman set the tone for SHANNARA by directing the first two episodes. It’s taken Terry Brooks’ best-selling and long-lived SHANNARA fantasy book series about forty years to make its way to the screen, but MTV has finally brought it to television in THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES, Tuesday nights at 10 PM. In Season 1, we’re a few thousand years in the future, when technology is a distant memory, magic is in use and elves dominate the world (humans are rarer and less valued). Demons have long ago been banished to a realm called the Forbidding, but as the guardian tree Ellcrys loses its leaves, the monsters break free one by one. Elf maiden […]Read On »

Interview: WRATH OF THE TITANS composer Javier Navarrete fights for gods and men

WRATH OF THE TITANS soundtrack | ©2012 Water Tower Records

In WRATH OF THE TITANS, a menagerie of ancient beasts and angry gods are unleashed upon the world of men, all due to the declining prayers directed at Zeus and his brethren on Mount Olympus. However, Hollywood’s cinematic worship towards ancient Greece’s supreme being, let alone legendary deities in general, is more than boisterous given the current films inspired by the mythic clashes of old. Not only are these pictures a boon for today’s CGI effects wizards to indulge in their Ray Harryhausen-inspired love of stop-motion giant monsters, but they’re equally heaven-sent for composers to unleash the own musically epic […]Read On »

Rating: PG-13 Stars: Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Edgar Ramirez, Toby Kebbell, Rosamund Pike, Bill Nighy, Danny Huston, John Bell Writers: Dan Mazeau & David Leslie Johnson, story by Greg Berlanti & David Leslie Johnson & Dan Mazeau Director: Jonathan Liebesman Distributor: Warner Bros. Release Date: March 30, 2012 WRATH OF THE TITANS is actually more or less okay, but there are a number of elements that offer themselves up for nitpicking criticism at the outset. For one thing, while “titans” was being used figuratively to describe large and imposing beings and monsters in this movie’s forerunner, 2010’s CLASH […]Read On »

While speaking to the press yesterday for the new alien invasion flick BATTLE: LA (which hits theaters on March 11), director Jonathan Liebesman was actually rather forthcoming about his plans for his next film WRATH OF THE TITANS, the sequel to last year’s CLASH OF THE TITANS. Taking over for director Louis Leterrier, Liebesman says he will take the best from CLASH and then make the rest his own. “I approach each thing as if it’s your own film,” says Liebesman who says his approach will be more realistic than in the original. “I’m not going to do as an […]Read On »
