CD Review: CREEPSHOW soundtrack (3,000 edition)

CREEPSHOW soundtrack | ©2014 La La Land Records

From the time when the denizens of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD shambled through its farmhouse field to the tune of creature feature stock music, George Romero’s horror films have had a pulp throwback feel to them that recalled the graphic, moral comeuppance of such E.C. comics as “Tales From the Crypt” and “Vault of Horror.” So it was only natural that the filmmaker would unleash his own cinematic, blood-colored anthology with 1982s CREEPSHOW, authored by no less than Stephen King. It’s a film that for many remains the director’s most unhinged and pleasurable effort, especially with its seamless combination […]Read On »

CD Review: DAY OF THE DEAD (Limited Edition) soundtrack

DAY OF THE DEAD soundtrack | ©2013 La La Land Records

Even when outright horror movies had humor in them, composers would mostly play the often gory action straight. While DAY OF THE DEAD might amiably shamble amongst George Romero’s original trilogy, it’s John Harrison’s score that stands as the most unique of their soundtracks for this reason. Where NIGHT used library music for maximum black and white effect, and Goblin brought catchy, progressive rock color to DAWN‘s entrail-laden shopping mall, it could be argued that Harrison was the composer who truly got Romero’s subversive satire, even if this sequel was claustrophobically set in a decidedly non-consumerist military mine complex. TNT’s action series LEVERAGE begins its fifth season on July 15 on TNT, and today, the show’s star Timothy Hutton gave a little tease about what to expect. The new season begins with Nate Ford (Hutton) and his team of former thieves (who help the helpless by taking down big targets by performing elaborate cons) have set up shop in Portland, OR (where the series is filmed). Nate’s addiction issues are the heart of the new season, as he finally recognizes he wants to get better, while “trust” is also a theme according to Hutton. “For Nate, the way his […]Read On »

As LEVERAGE wraps up the summer portion of Season 4 (with a return of regular antagonist Jim Sterling played by Mark Sheppard), ASSIGNMENT X chatted with star Aldis Hodge who plays hacker Hardison on the series. Throughout the course of the TNT series, Hardison has went from wise-cracking loner to someone who is finally accepting that he’s part of a team. He also has feelings for the somewhat closes off Parker (Beth Riesgraf) which has been gaining some traction the past couple of seasons. Here’s what Hodge had to say about the latest developments. ASSIGNMENT X:  So Sterling is finally […]Read On »

TV Review: LEVERAGE – Season 4 – “The Hot Potato Job”

Gina Bellman and Christian Kane in LEVERAGE - Season 4 - "The Hot Potato Job" | ©2011 TNT/Erik Heinila

Stars: Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman, Aldis Hodge, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf, Mitch Pileggi, Bhanna Peget Writer: Jenn Kao, series created by John Rogers & Chris Downey Director: John Harrison Network: TNT, Sundays @ 9 PM Airdate: July 24, 2011 LEVERAGE’s “The Hot Potato Job” is decent enough – it literally involves a stolen (i.e., hot) potato, so points up front for a good title, as well as smart casting in employing Mitch Pileggi as the big bad of the week. However, given that this is the episode where team leader Nathan (Timothy Hutton) and longtime unconsummated/then consummated-but-pretending-it’s-no-big-deal love interest Sophie […]Read On »
