However, in the TV version of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, the story is set in Staten Island, New York, rather than the movie’s New Zealand, and we’ve got a whole new group of vamps (Clement and Waititi, who both starred in […]Read On »

FX’s Wednesday-night second installment of the AMERICAN CRIME STORY anthology drama series, THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE, deals not only with the well-known event of the title, but of the murder spree that led up to it. Based in part on Maureen Orth’s nonfiction book VULGAR FAVORS, AMERICAN CRIME STORY argues that law enforcement was slow to track Cunanan due to the homophobia of the […]Read On »

FX Networks and FX Productions’ CEO John Landgraf sounds very happy when he addresses the Television Critics Association in August, which isn’t surprising given what he has to say. “In the twelve years I’ve been at FX, I don’t think we’ve ever had a better first half of a calendar year than 2016, and I know we’ve definitely never had a better traditional broadcast year than the 2015-2016 season. In addition to the four TCA and two AFI Awards, we broke out own basic cable record with fifty-six Emmy Awards.” Landgraf credits Variety reporter Maureen Ryan with, in November, writing […]Read On »

Season 2 of FX’s FARGO, Mondays at 10 PM, is not entirely unconnected to Season 1. In the series created by Noah Hawley, which takes its title and tone but no characters from the Coen Brothers’ 1996 feature, bad things just keep happening in Sioux Falls, North Dakota, and Luverne, Minnesota. In Season 2, it’s 1979, and State Police officer Lou Solverson (played by Patrick Wilson; the older version of the character was played by Keith Carradine in Season 1) is looking into a mystifying incident that involves both local and out-of-state criminals. One of the town’s bad men is […]Read On »
