IFC’s DOCUMENTARY NOW!, currently in its third season on Wednesday nights, offers keen-eyed parodies of actual documentaries. The episode airing February 27, “Cast Album: Co-op,” sends up D.A. Pennebaker’s hour-long 1970 ORIGINAL CAST ALBUM: COMPANY, which chronicled the recording of the soundtrack for the Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical. The series was created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers, and Rhys Thomas. James Urbaniak stars in “Cast Album: Co-op” as Broadway musical director Howard Pine, who bears a non-coincidental resemblance to COMPANY director Harold Prince. Urbaniak has appeared on and off Broadway himself as an actor. In Los Angeles, he […]Read On »

As PORTLANDIA heads into its third season with stars and co-creators Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, co-creator and director Jonathan Krisel told the press at the Winter TCA 2013 that Portland, Oregon now embraces the series when they were initially skeptical during the first season of the IFC series. “When we were doing the first season, people were very skeptical of the TV show,” says Krisel. “They were sort of mad that someone was coming into their town. Now, when we go out in the third season, people are very supportive. I think the humor of the show and sort […]Read On »

TV Review: SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE – Season 38 – Host Martin Short

After a very rough patch of episodes, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE pulled out all the stops for its Christmas episode hosted by Martin Short with musical guest Paul McCartney. Following on the heels of the tragedy in the Sandy Hook elementary shooting, SNL made the cold opening a very classy and understated moment – they had the New York Children’s Choir sing “Silent Night”. No mention was made of the tragedy, but it was clear what this moment stood for. Very memorable. The rest of the episode was filled with an endless parade of big name cameos (Samuel L. Jackson, Alec […]Read On »

Season 38 has turned into one of the worst seasons in some time and I still haven’t figured out why. Kristen Wiig and Andy Samburg leaving should not have killed the show’s momentum. They were good, but they weren’t […]Read On »

While Renner is an amazing dramatic actor, doing live TV is not necessarily his strong suit, although when his piano failed to play during his monologue, he handled himself quite well until the problem was fixed. That said, most of the sketches were terrible this […]Read On »

Like her previous two stints, Hathaway is fantastic and very funny. In many ways she’s a stronger performer than the material she’s given and her ability to put herself out there and look ridiculous is part […]Read On »

Once again Kate McKinnon rises to the top as one of the most promising new performers as the series relies heavily on Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis to wring laughs out […]Read On »
