Exclusive Interview: Jane Espenson scoop on HUSBANDS THE SERIES – Season 2

HUSBANDS, a new web series from Jane Espenson

When Jane Espenson and Brad “Cheeks” Bell wrote and produced their Internet comedy HUSBANDS THE SERIES, starring Cheeks and Sean Hemeon and Cheeks and Brady, two men who spontaneously legally marry each other and then try to make the relationship work, the creators thought they were just doing something creative and fun. The reaction was seismic. Awards and national coverage followed, including articles in the Advocate and a review in the New Yorker. Airing in eleven two-minute installments, HUSBANDS THE SERIES also acquired a huge fan following. Co-starring Alessandra Torresani as Cheeks’ best friend Hayley and directed and executive-produced by […]Read On »

TV Review: TOUCH – Season 1 – “1+1=3”

Kiefer Sutherland and David Mazouz in TOUCH - Season 1 - "1+1=3" | ©2012 Fox/Kelsey McNeal

Stars: Keifer Sutherland, David Mazouz, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Danny Glover Writer: Tim Kring Director: Ian Toynton Network: Fox, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: March 23, 2012 I was a big fan of the pilot presentation of TOUCH. It brought Kiefer Sutherland back to Fox after his long stint on 24, it had a compelling, positive story from HEROES creator Tim Kring and it proved that challenging, interesting and different storytelling does have a place on network television. However, delivering in a pilot and delivering on a week to week basis are two separate things. Thankfully, the official series premiere of TOUCH, […]Read On »

Of course, by now, you know it was Erica Van Pelt that was given the unceremonious boot. With Heejun Han and DeAndre Brackensick in the bottom. But before we go any further … Rant time: Excuse me, while I get this off my chest. So […]Read On »

Interview: COMMUNITY star Gillian Jacobs talks Season 4 hope, Season 3 dope and alternate timelines

Gillian Jacobs in COMMUNITY - Season 3 - "Advanced Gay" | ©2012 NBC/Justin Lubin

One of the strangest and comedically satisfying series on network television is NBC’s COMMUNITY.  Set at the fictional Greendale Community College, the series focuses on a study group of misfits who find themselves in very strange situations every episode. It’s a show aware of its weirdness and strangeness, but there’s also a sweet core to it as well. Gillian Jacobs plays Britta Perry, the high-strung know-it-all and supposed independent thinker who is a much more brittle than she realizes. In fact, last week, it was revealed that she’s a secret homemaker – and comes from a “long line of wives […]Read On »

TV Review: SOUTH PARK – Season 16 – “Cash For Gold”

Stan and his grandpa in SOUTH PARK - Season 16 - "Cash For Gold" | ©2012 Comedy Central

Writer: Trey Parker Director: Trey Parker Network: Comedy Central, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: March 22, 2012 One of the most ground-breaking moments in SOUTH PARK history came last season when the mid-season finale “You’re Getting Old” tackled some serious issues while still bathed in the show’s filthy potty humor. It was an amazing episode – not only touching, but also grasping at something a little deeper. The show has always been about pushing boundaries and occasional political commentary, but there was a rawness to that episode that polarized fans. Those that got it though, appreciated that, in some ways, […]Read On »

TV Review: BENT – Season 1 – “Pilot” – Series Premiere

BENT - Season 1 poster art | ©2012 NBC

Stars: Amanda Peet, David Walton, Margo Harshman, Joey King, Jeffrey Tambor  Writer:  Tad Quill Director: Craig Zisk Network: NBC, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: March 22, 2012 As much trouble as NBC has been in this season with ratings, the quality of its programs have actually been quite interesting – even when they do seriously fail in nabbing viewers. And while we’ve had to suffer through the abysmal WHITNEY and ARE YOU THERE CHELSEA?, they also hit a double with UP ALL NIGHT and I would even say a triple with the surprisingly well done quirky comedy BENT. If you […]Read On »

Cast: Ryan Seacrest, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 8 p.m. Original Telecast: March 21, 2012 I found it extremely interesting this week on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL, that they started the show with a look back at Shannon Magrane’s departure and how broken up everyone was. They should be thanking their lucky stars. They just got a ticket to do something that will make them some money in the summer tour. Why be sad? She was just going to be voted off eventually just like you, DeAndre, and you, […]Read On »
