In Syfy’s THE EXPANSE, in its first season Tuesdays at 10 PM, humanity has spread across the solar system without getting any more humane. Show runner Naren Shankar, one of THE EXPANSE’s executive producers, has lots of experience in the science-fiction genre, with writing/producing credits that include STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, THE OUTER LIMITS, FARSCAPE and GRIMM. Santino Fontana’s character Greg Serrano may be a comparatively less loony person on the CW’s hour-long Monday night musical comedy series CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, but the actor’s own schedule looks pretty bonkers, as he’s simultaneously co-starring in NBC’s new Thursday-night police drama SHADES OF BLUE as NYPD officer Stuart Saperstein. The two shows could hardly be more different. CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND stars Rachel Bloom, who co-created the show with Aline Brosh McKenna, as Rebecca Bunch, who gives up a promising Manhattan law career to move to West Covina, California, in pursuit of her oblivious crush Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III). Rebecca’s daydreams tend […]Read On »

GOOSEBUMPS highlights Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Releases for Jan. 26, 2016

GOOSEBUMPS | © 2016 Fox Home Entertainment

The last week of the month in video releases are either jam packed or slim pickings, the latter is the case this week but there is still some decent stuff to check out. Movies: GOOSEBUMPS – Now usually when you take a fan-favorite children’s franchise, slap it with high amounts of CG and an all-star cast everyone gets their panties in a bunch about ruining their childhood or driving a stake through the heart of whatever was left of the history. But GOOSEBUMPS the movie was actually wildly well received by critics and fans alike. Maybe that’s because they didn’t […]Read On »

In space, your crewmates actually can hear you say something to the effect of, “I think the ship may be falling apart.” This is one of the many hazards on Syfy’s new series THE EXPANSE, now in its first season Tuesdays at 10 PM and renewed for a second. Based on a series of best-selling novels by James S.A. Corey, THE EXPANSE has multiple interwoven plot threads. One of these concerns the Canterbury, a spaceship that is not exactly in ship-shape as it hauls ice across the solar system two hundred years from now. This is physically perilous work in […]Read On »

TV Review: THE X-FILES – Season 10 – “Founder’s Mutation”

David Duchovny stars as Mulder and Gillian Anderson stars as Dana Scully in THE X-FILES | © 2016 Ed Araquel/FOX

Cast: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, Joel McHale, William B. Davis Writer: James Wong Director: James Wong Network: Airs on Fox, Mondays @ 8p.m. Original Telecast: Jan. 25, 2016 So this was definitely more what I was hoping for from THE X-FILES in terms of storyline and bringing the characters together in a proper reunion (see my review of the first episode here) “Founder’s Mutation” did more in the first 15 minutes for this revival than the entire previous episode did. We see Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) once again part of the FBI’s task force to […]Read On »

King is back in AMERICAN CRIME Season 2, which airs Wednesdays at 10 PM, but she – like returning cast mates Timothy Hutton, Felicity Huffman, Richard Cabral, Lili Taylor and Elvis Nolasco – is playing an entirely different character this year. Unlike the first season, which dealt with a racially-charged murder investigation, AMERICAN CRIME’s second year concerns the fallout after male high school student Taylor (Connor Jessup) is apparently raped by at least one […]Read On »
