It is just me or does it feel like it’s been forever since there was a new WHO on, and by the same token doesn’t it feel just a little bit like it’s been no time at all? Timey Wimey Wibbly Wobbly. I have a bad habit of getting up and doing other things when watching television programs that bore me, instead of sitting and faithfully watching every second of an episode. So far COPPER has held my attention, and I watch knowing that there might some subtle […]Read On »

Franka Potente in COPPER - Season 1 | ©2012 BBC AMERICA/Cineflix (Copper) Inc.

The new BBC AMERICA series COPPER is gaining critical and audience attention alike. The show set in New York in 1864 is a smart blend of period drama, police procedural, lots of action, and even some educational references. Detective Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones) is a man with a tragic past that includes a murdered daughter and a wife that has gone missing while he was off fighting in the Civil War. Even though Corcoran still has a wife out there somewhere, he has needs that more often than not are fulfilled by Eva Heissen played by the lovely Franka Potente […]Read On »

TV Review: COPPER – Season 1 – “Husbands and Fathers”

Molly Stuart (Tanya Fischer) stars in COPPER "Husbands and Fathers" | © 2012 BBC AMERICA/Cineflix (Copper) Inc.

Stars: Tom Weston-Jones, Kevin Ryan, Ato Essandoh, Anastasia Griffiths, Tanya Fischer, Kiara Glasco, Franka Potente Writer:  Tom Fontana & Will Rokos   Director: Jeff Woolnough     Network: BBC America, airs Sunday nights Original Telecast: August 26, 2012 COPPER has a really nice pacing to the storytelling of this series. I like that mysteries carry over from week to week, but they get wrapped up just the same within a reasonable time period. “Husbands and Fathers” is an appropriate title for this new episode, even if a lot of the connotation of the title is creepy … just plain creepy. Annie (Kiara Glasco) […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: VEEP creator Armando Iannucci chats about his HBO series

Julia Louise-Dreyfuss in VEEP - Season 1 | ©2012 Bill Gray

Writer/director/producer Armando Iannucci loves political comedy. The Glasgow-born hyphenate is also known for non-political comedy, including several series of ALAN PARTRIDGE shows starring Steve Coogan as an inept talk show host. However, a lot of viewers know Iannucci’s work from THE THICK OF IT, his satire of the British corridors of power, currently airing on BBC America. IN THE LOOP, the film based on THE THICK OF IT that Iannucci directed and co-wrote, was nominated for an adapted screenplay Oscar. Now Iannucci has come to HBO with the half-hour comedy VEEP, which airs Sunday nights on the premium cable network. […]Read On »
