In Fox’s Friday-night comedy THE COOL KIDS, David Alan Grier plays retirement-community resident Hank. Hank and his friends Charlie (Martin Mull) and Sid (Leslie Jordan) have their routine shaken up with the arrival of Margaret (Vicki Lawrence), a natural-born rule breaker. Grier, originally from Detroit, Michigan, studied Shakespeare at Yale. Fox’s Monday-night first-responder drama 9-1-1 is in its second season and has been renewed for a third. Aisha Hinds plays stalwart firefighter Henrietta “Hen” Wilson in the series, which is both set and shot in Los Angeles. This season, Hen has been trapped in a collapsed sewer pipe and through the start of a tense custody battle; she and her wife Karen (Tracie Thoms) are raising their young son Denny (Declan Pratt), who is the biological child of Hen’s ex Eva (Abby Brammell). In Fox’s legal drama PROVEN INNOCENT, now in its first season Friday nights, a legal team in Chicago works to exonerate wrongfully convicted defendants. Among the lawyers is Madeline Scott (Rachelle Lefevre), who herself was wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for ten years for the murder of her best friend, Rosemary Lynch (Casey Tutton). While she takes on other cases, Madeline is still trying to get to the truth of Rosemary’s death. THE FIX, ABC’s Monday-night legal drama, is based (in its first season, at least) on the courtroom experiences of Marcia Clark. Clark gained fame as the prosecutor in the real-life murder case against then-famed football player O.J. Simpson, accused of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. Simpson was declared not guilty, though he subsequently lost a civil suit brought by the parents of the victims.
