Back in the comic book day, The House of Ideas teamed The Thing with a guest superhero star of the month for Marvel-Two-in-One. That series’ consistent match-up of four-color brawn has now been musically equaled in the space of one year by Brian Tyler, who follows up his entry into Marvel’s cinematic universe for IRON MAN 3 with even more powerfully potent results in THOR: THE DARK WORLD. But while it might not necessarily be an even match comparing a playboy in a souped-up suit of armor with an alien-Norse demigod, the evil elf-sponsored end of the universe versus an […]Read On »

If last year’s THE AVENGERS was any indication, Marvel Studios knows how to manage its stable of comic book characters in film and how to maximize storylines, characters and talent over the course of multiple movies. Anchoring THE AVENGERS was Robert Downey Jr. as billionaire Tony Stark, aka Iron Man and now he’s back flying solo again with IRON MAN 3. Although this could be viewed as a direct sequel to THE AVENGERS (Stark has post-traumatic stress from saving the world from invading aliens), the latest film directed by Shane Black (taking over from Jon Favreau) grounds the film in […]Read On »

While speaking at Comic-Con 2012, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke about Marvel’s very busy movie slate. While there is a worry of overkill and over-saturating the market with too many Marvel movies , Feige says he doesn’t feel like that tipping point has happened yet and as long as they continue making great movies, they’ll be fine. “I have been at Marvel for 12 years and we had that concern going when X-MEN came out and SPIDER-MAN came out in one year,” says Feige. “The trick and formula is to try and make different movies and make them great. Ultron | ©2012 Marvel Comics

We already know – SPOILERS! – Thanos is on the way in the next THE AVENGERS movie, but what other famous foes from Avengers stories of the past deserve a shot at big screen stardom? After all, heroes are only as good as the villains they face. We list a few here, but they’re only suggestions; and no, Count Nefaria is not on this list. Complain all you like in the comments about that glaring omission or the lack of Baron Zemo, but remember that this is just one list for our villainous THE AVENGERS 2 and 3 films; you […]Read On »

Cobie Smulders has long been hailed for her comedic prowess as Robin Sherbatsky on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, now gearing up for its eighth season on CBS. However, with writer/director Joss Whedon’s box-office superhero THE AVENGERS from Disney and Marvel, Smulders shows off her action star side as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, running, sliding and shooting with the best of them. There are big differences in doing a weekly TV comedy series and a giant studio action feature film, Smulders notes. “It’s definitely a shift in schedule,” says Smulders. “I made it a point to do a lot of […]Read On »
