Lana Parrilla in ONCE UPON A TIME - Season 3 | ©2014 ABC/Bob D'Amico

Now in its third season on ABC, Sundays at 8 PM, ONCE UPON A TIME has finished its sojourn in Neverland, with Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) heroically sacrificing himself to stop Peter Pan (Robbie Kay) – who is actually Rumplestiltskin’s father! – from controlling everything and everyone. A curse sent many of the characters back from Storybrooke to the Enchanted Forest, while Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and her son Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) had their memories altered to believe they’d always lived in New York. Another curse has brought our people back to Storybrooke, and Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) has restored […]Read On »

In ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND, ABC Thursdays at 8 PM, ONCE UPON A TIME creators/executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have (with fellow WONDERLAND creators Zack Estrin and Jane Espenson) woven together a story in the same universe as their mothership (now in its third season on ABC, Sundays at 8 PM). We’ve visited Wonderland before with Sebastian Stan’s Mad Hatter and Barbara Hershey’s Queen of Hearts. Those characters don’t show up in the new series, which combines traditional elements from Lewis Carroll’s classics ALICE IN WONDERLAND and ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS with Disney’s ALADDIN. Here, Alice […]Read On »

In ABC’s ONCE UPON A TIME, Sundays at 8 PM, a lot of fairytale characters – including Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), Jiminy Cricket aka Archie Hopper ((Raphael Sbarge), Regina aka the Wicked Queen (Lana Parrilla) and Mr. Gold aka Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) – have been relocated by a curse from Fairytale Land to Storybrooke, Maine. In Season 1, none of the characters, with the exceptions ofRegina and Rumplestiltskin, remembered who they were. Thanks to Emma (Jennifer Morrison), the grown daughter of Snow and Charming, and her young son Henry (Jared Gilmore), the curse was broken at […]Read On »

Movie Review: THE APPARITION

THE APPARITION | (c) 2012 Warner Bros

Rating: PG-13 Stars: Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, Tom Felton Writer: Todd Lincoln Director: Todd Lincoln Distributor: Warner Bros. Release Date: Aug. 24, 2012 THE APPARITION owes a fair bit to the original PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, though it is not (much) a found footage film. Borrowing between horror movies isn’t necessarily a bad thing – last year’s INSIDIOUS had plenty of inspirations and still managed to be very scary – but it can be a problem when the project in question relies on a memorable piece of lore from another source as a primary plot twist. Other issues here are that writer/director […]Read On »

Interview: CAPTAIN AMERICA composer Alan Silvestri throws his mighty shield

CAPTAIN AMERICA soundtrack | ©2011 Walt Disney Records

When it comes to the sound of military heroism, few of today’s movie composers can signal an old-school orchestral brass salute like Alan Silvestri. From bombastically playing the dark march of Stallone’s JUDGE DREDD to capturing the steely commando skills of Schwarzenegger in ERASER and PREDATOR, this one-time synthesist for the easygoing motorcycle cops of CHiPS has become the go-to composer for the epic sound of super soldiers, most recently with the wisecracking adventure of THE A-TEAM and the techno-symphonic gadgets wielded by the G.I. JOE squadron. For a composer who always brings out the big thematic guns in the […]Read On »
