Arthur C. Clarke’s 1953 novel CHILDHOOD’S END has been regarded as a science-fiction classic for six decades now. For about the same amount of time, it has been regarded as unfilmable, even though Stanley Kubrick’s cinematic adaptation of another of Clarke’s novels, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, has received near-universal acclaim and despite the fact that CHILDHOOD’S themes of an alien race arriving on Earth with tangible benefits (an end to war, disease and poverty) but dubious motives have been disseminated throughout countless other books, films and TV series. Syfy Channel has finally accepted the challenge and produced a three-part miniseries […]Read On »

At today’s CBS Summer TCA press tour, CBS Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves announced that the hit Stephen King summer series UNDER THE DOME will return again next summer. “It’s official, and Stephen King will be writing the first episode of that 13-episode arc,” says Moonves. “We’re really proud of  what UNDER THE DOME has done. It sort of changed the face of summer television. The highest premiere of a drama, since, I think, 1992. It’s the way television should be. It’s the way television can be. Obviously it’s a very different model.” With summer programming being […]Read On »

Karine Vanasse, Michael Mosley, Margot Robbie, Mike Vogel, Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner in PAN AM - Season 1 | ©2011 ABC/Bob D'Amico

Stars: Christina Ricci, Margot Robbie, Michael Mosley, Karine Vanasse, Mike Vogel, Kelli Garner Writer: Jack Orman Director: Thomas Schlamme Network: ABC, Sundays @ 10 PM Original Telecast: September 25, 2011 To say that ABC’s new series PAN AM is better than the network’s remake of CHARLIE’S ANGELS or NBC’s THE PLAYBOY CLUB is not necessarily high praise. However, PAN AM at least has a sense of real fun and genuine nostalgia for an era when flying was fun and a job that took somebody around the world for free seemed truly adventurous. Let us remember that back in 1960, the […]Read On »
