Actor J. August Richards has played a number of lawyers (in CONVICTION, RAISING THE BAR, THE DEFENDERS, and NOTORIOUS) and doctors (in GREY’S ANATOMY and COUNCIL OF DADS), along with a sheriff’s deputy (in KEVIN [PROBABLY] SAVES THE WORLD) and a cyborg superhero (in AGENTS OF SHIELD). However, Richards is perhaps best known and loved for costarring as heroic vampire hunter Charles Gunn on ANGEL for that show’s five seasons, from 2000 through 2004. LEGACIES, now on The CW Thursday night in its second season, is created by Julie Plec. The series, a spinoff of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and THE ORIGINALS, is about the Salvatore Academy, a private high school where young witches, vampires, werewolves and other supernaturally-inclined teens can study without having to hide their true identities. Plec has directed two episodes, including the Season 2 premiere. The CW’s new Thursday-night series LEGACIES is a spin-off of both THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, which ran on the network for eight years, and that series’ spin-off THE ORIGINALS, which concluded its five-season run in May. In LEGACIES, Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), the daughter of the late vampire/werewolf hybrid Klaus and granddaughter of a witch, is one of the first enrollees at the Mystic Falls, Virginia Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted.
