One of the big news items to come out of Comic-Con 2012, is the BBC and Syfy series MERLIN is getting ready to develop a trilogy of theatrical films based on the TV series which is heading into its fifth season. Though co-creator and executive producer Johnny Capps isn’t sure which form they will take, he talk a little bit about the plan. “We’re in discussions with BBC about Season 6, but we’re talking about the movies,” says Capps. “We’re hopefully going to do a trilogy – three movies. When you hear the lush orchestrations, female choruses singing in some seemingly Elvish language and the dark, foreboding brass that signals ring-obsessed villainy, you might think you’ve somehow time-warped yourself a copy of the score for the forthcoming HOBBIT. The fall finale of FRINGE, left much to be desired. Instead of going out with a bang and giving us a blockbuster way to remember the show leading up to the return, we got a rather mundane episode where the ultimate bottom line was Olivia (Anna Torv) ending her relationship with Peter (Joshua Jackson).

If THE X-FILES had decided to do a Christmas episode for the R.L. Stine set, it might have been something like RARE EXPORTS: A CHRISTMAS TALE. Made and set in Finland, general vicinity where the mythical Santa supposedly dwells, RARE is a horror movie pitched at kids, with bits of gore (dead animals, a bitten ear) but mostly a sense of menace and black comedy.
