TV Review: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – Season 3 – “The Departed” – Season Finale

Matt Davis in THE VAMPIRE DIARIES - Season 3 - "The Departed" | ©2012 The CW/Annette Brown

Stars: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder Writer: Story by Elizabeth R. Finch & Brett Matthews, Teleplay by Julie Plec,   Based on the book by L.J. Smith Director: John Behring     Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: May 10, 2012 I love it that THE VAMPIRE DIARIES can still have a season finale that not only shakes up most of the lives of the characters, but changes the game in significant ways. “The Departed” is a great example of how to get rid of unwanted or tired storylines, add new elements to existing storylines, and generally re-boot your […]Read On »

Smith Director: Chris Grismer     Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: May 3, 2012 “Before Sunset” is the next to the last episode of this third season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on THE CW. This series has had some interesting ups and downs, but one thing is for sure, it never ceases to be one of my favorite “guilty pleasures” on television. I’ve been bitching for most of the season that I wanted […]Read On »

TV Review: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – Season 3 – “Do Not Go Gentle”

Stars: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder Writer: Michael Narducci, Based on the book by L.J. Smith Director: Joshua Butler     Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: April 24, 2012 The most important thing about THE VAMPIRE DIARIES episode “Do not go Gentle” is the fact that they are finally doing something with Alaric (Matthew Davis) that is worthwhile! For the better part of this season I have been railing on the fact that the writers just can’t seem to make up their minds in regards to what to do with Alaric. He gets smacked around, killed and […]Read On »

Stars: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder Writer: Brian Young & Evan Bleiweiss, Based on the book by L.J. Smith Director: Chris Grismer     Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: April 19, 2012 With “Heart of Darkness”, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES returns from yet another break. Anyone remember them taking this many breaks in past seasons? Anywho, this episode saw not just the return of one of my favorite guilty pleasures, but also the return of two of my favorite boys on the show, Tyler (Michael Trevino) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). Not that Mystic Falls has had a […]Read On »

While at today’s NBCUniversal Summer Press Day 2012, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES actor Daniel Gillies hinted that he’s not completely done with THE VAMPIRE DIARIES even though his character Elijah Mikaelson had left town at the end of “All My Children” and he is also starring in the new NBC medical drama SAVING HOPE debuting on June 7. “I have not entirely left THE VAMPIRE DIARIES,” says Gillies. “Fortunately we film at different times during the year. I’m deeply indebted to what [THE VAMPIRE DIARIES] has given me, but this show [SAVING HOPE] takes precedence. I love [DIARIES executive producers] Julie […]Read On »

TV Review: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – Season 3 – “The Murder of One”

Stars: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder Writer: Caroline Dries, Based on the book by L.J. Smith Director: J. Miller Tobin     Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: March 22, 2012 With “The Murder of One”, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES solves some old problems, but in doing so makes things even more complicated for our gang in Mystic Falls. At the end of last episode Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) had the last pieces of the mystical white oak tree in the form of a Mystic Falls Bridge sign. The big plan is to make the sign […]Read On »

TV Review: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – Season 3 – “Break on Through”

Torrey DeVitto in THE VAMPIRE DIARIES - Season 3 - "Break on Through" | ©2012 The CW/Quantrell D. Colbert

Stars: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder Writer: Rebecca Sonnenshine, Based on the book by L.J. Smith Director: Lance Anderson   Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: March 22, 2012 Hmmm, two episodes back in and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES still doesn’t feel like it’s quite up to its potential. This series has been one of my favorite guilty pleasures for a couple of years, but following on the heels of the original vamp storyline this season, it seems that the writers are at a loss as to what to do next (besides bodily harm to Alaric (Matt Davis). So […]Read On »

TV Review: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – Season 3 – “1912”

Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley in THE VAMPIRE DIARIES - Season 3 - "1912" | ©2012 The CW/Bob Mahoney

Stars: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder Writer: Julie Plec & Elisabeth Finch, Based on the book by L.J. Smith Director: John Behring  Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: March 15, 2012 THE VAMPIRE DIARIES has a habit of giving audiences slam bang endings when they take breaks, and really strong episodes to kick off the show when it returns. That is why the return from a break episode “1912” is so perplexing to me. It just wasn’t good. It was boring, and there was little or nothing going on besides a few minor revelations that really don’t […]Read On »
