The 2011 EyeGore Awards were held at Universal Studios Hollywood on Friday night – just as Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights kicked off its annual haunted park event. Corey Feldman hosted the event with a CHILDREN OF THE CORN-esque stage backdrop providing fodder as a scarecrow proved to be Feldman’s comedic foil throughout the night. David Arquette won for his role in the SCREAM movie franchise. After accepting the award from his friend Thomas Jane, Arquette said, “I love the support of horror fans and the things they love. They’re a bunch of goofballs, just like me.” Bailee Madison, the […]Read On »

TV Review: COMMUNITY – Season 3 – “Biology 101” – Season Premiere

Joel McHale in COMMUNITY - Season 3 - "Biology 101" | ©2011 NBC/Lewis Jacobs

Stars: Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, Chevy Chase, Jim Rash Director: Anthony Russo Network: NBC, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: September 22, 2011 COMMUNITY is usually so good, but when it makes a mis-step or two, it’s quite noticeable Granted, a mediocre or flawed episode of COMMUNITY is still more entertaining than most sitcoms, but still, the Season Three premiere “Biology 101” left me a little bit cold. It starts off with a pretty funny musical number about the show not being as weird as it was the first two […]Read On »

Amy Poehler in PARKS AND RECREATION - Season 4 - "I'm Leslie Knope" | ©2011 NBC/Ron Tom

Stars: Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe Network: NBC, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: September 22, 2011 Although PARKS AND RECREATION started off okay and then developed into one of the funniest shows during its second season, it finally found some mainstream acceptance with its third season and the addition of Adam Scott and Rob Lowe to the cast. Season Three was fantastic and showed the show growing and evolving into its own. With the Season Four premiere “I’m Leslie Knope,” the series is on target to deliver another solid […]Read On »

Whitney Cummings and Chris D'Elia in WHITNEY - Season 1 | ©2011 NBC

Stars: Whitney Cummings, Chris D’Elia, Zoe Lister-Jones, Dan O’Brien, Maulik Pancholy, Rhea Seehorn Writer: Whitney Cummings Director: Andy Ackerman Network: NBC, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: September 22, 2011 Remember back in the 1990s when FRIENDS was such a huge juggernaut that anything they put after it at 8:30 was guaranteed ratings gold? Remember how every year, NBC would squander that timeslot with subpar piles of crap – just treading water, hoping and waiting the next FRIENDS would manifest (it never did). Well, watching WHITNEY, NBC’s latest Thursday night comedy, you’re reminded of all those 8:30 failures (even though it […]Read On »

TV Review: UP ALL NIGHT – Season 1 – “Pilot” – Series Premiere

Will Arnett and Christina Applegate in UP ALL NIGHT - Season 1 - "Pilot" | ©2011 NBC/Trae Patton

Stars: Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph Writer: Emily Spivey Director: James Griffiths Network: NBC, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: September 14, 2011 It’s been a tough road for NBC the last couple of years what with mergers and executive turnovers, but the new comedy UP ALL NIGHT could potentially turn things around. A clever comedy that’s hinged on a familiar concept (parents of a newborn must cope with their new baby-filled life) is elevated with the excellent casting of Christina Applegate and Will Arnett. Additionally it has the rich pedigree of former SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE writer Emily Spivey who […]Read On »

Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn in FREE AGENTS - Season 1 - "Pilot" | ©2011 NBC/Mitchell Haaseth

On the successful end, there’s THE OFFICE. On the other end, there’s COUPLING. FREE AGENTS is somewhere on this scale, but it starts out with a lot of promise. Not only does it have a great cast, led […]Read On »

TV Review: WILFRED – Season 1 – “Anger”

Jason Gann in WILFRED - Season 1 - "Anger" | ©2011 FX/Ray Mickshaw

Stars: Elijah Wood, Jason Gann, Dorian Brown, Nestor Carbonell Writers: Sivert Glarum & Michael Jamin, series created by Jason Gann & Adam Zwar, adapted for American television by David Zuckerman Director: Victor Nelli, Jr. Network: FX, Thursdays @ 10 PM Airdate: August 11, 2011 Given how WILFRED as a series sends up everything, almost the last thing one would expect in an episode is a note of sincere emotion, but that’s just how “Anger” ends. On its way, it deals once more with Ryan’s (Elijah Wood) awesome passivity in the face of verbal/emotional abuse, Wilfred’s (Jason Gann) diabolical behavior, some […]Read On »

Movie Review: FINAL DESTINATION 5

FINAL DESTINATION 5 movie poster | ©2011 Warner Bros.

Rating: R Stars: Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Miles Fisher, Courtney B. Vance, Tony Todd Writer: Eric Heisserer, based on characters created by Jeffrey Reddick Director: Steven Quale Distributor: Warner Bros. Release Date: August 12, 2011 When the first FINAL DESTINATION came out in 2000, it had both the gift of novelty and inventiveness. The notion of people who “cheat” death only to have it make more grabs at them via bizarre accidents was relatively fresh, and the accidents themselves were wonderfully convoluted, as well as very gory. There was also at least a semblance of plot as the remaining characters […]Read On »

TV Review: ALPHAS – Season 1 – “Anger Management”

Azita Gahnizada in ALPHAS - Season 1 - "Anger Management" | ©2011 Syfy/Ken Woroner

Stars: David Strathairn, Ryan Cartwright, Warren Christie, Warren Christie, Azita Ghanizada, Laura Mennell, Malik Yoba, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Devon Graye, Callum Keith Rennie Writers: Ira Steven Behr & Robert Hewitt Wolfe, series created by Zak Penn & Michael Karnow Director: Nick Copus Network: Syfy, Mondays @ 10 PM Airdate: July 25, 2011 While not as morally gray as last week’s episode – maybe because this week’s antagonist has caused much more harm with much less cause – “Anger Management” has a lot of strong scenes. Director Nick Copus seems to have picked up on some thematic similarities with 28 DAYS LATER/28 […]Read On »
