Robert Kirkman created the Eisner Award-winning THE WALKING DEAD comic book series, first published in 2003 and still running today. The comics chronicle the travails of a small group of people trying to survive after the world is overrun with the title element. When AMC commissioned THE WALKING DEAD as a series which began its run in October 2010 – Season Two is currently running Sundays at 9 PM – Kirkman came aboard as one of the executive producers and staff writers. Kirkman and David Alpert, another of WALKING DEAD’s executive producers, are available for a quick private chat about […]Read On »

TV Review: FRINGE – Season 4 – “A Better Human Being”

Blair Brown, Seth Gabel and John Noble in FRINGE - Season 4 - "A Better Human Being" | ©2012 Fox/Liane Hentscher

Cast: Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Anna Torv, Seth Gabel, Lance Reddick, Jasika Nicole Writer: Alison Schapker & Monica Owusu- Breen based on a story by Glen Whitman & Robert Chiappetta Director: Joe Chappelle Network: Fox, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: February 17, 2012 The FRINGE episode “A Better Human Being” is a good premise, that isn’t as fully fleshed out or as creepy as it should be. Yet, the creepy A-story, is truthfully the B-story to the episode’s stronger mythology storyline about what’s going on with Olivia (Anna Torv) and why she’s having memories of her life with Peter (Joshua […]Read On »

TV Review: THE RIVER – Season 1 – “Los Ciegos”

Eloise Mumford and Joe Anderson in THE RIVER - Season 1 - "Los Ciegos" | ©2012 ABC/Mario Perez

Stars: Bruce Greenwood, Joe Anderson, Leslie Hope, Eloise Mumford, Paul Blackthorne, Thomas Kretschmann, Daniel Zacapa, Shaun Parkes, Paulina Gaitan Writer: Glen Morgan, series created by Michael R. Perry & Oren Peli Director: Michael Katleman Network: ABC, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Broadcast: February 14, 2012 Too much character development is normally not a complaint for an episode of a TV series – the problem is usually the reverse. “Complaint” and “problem” are perhaps words too strong for what happens in THE RIVER’s third episode “Los Ciegos,” but it starts feeling like a bit of overkill when both of the show’s […]Read On »

TV Review: REVENGE – Season 1 – “Chaos”

Emily VanCamp and Josh Bowman in REVENGE - Season 1 - "Chaos" | ©2012 ABC/Colleen Hayes

Stars: Emily VanCamp, Madeleine Stowe, Henry Czerny, Josh Bowman, Nick Wechsler, Gabriel Mann, Ashley Madekwe, Christa B. Allen, Connor Paolo Writer: Mark Fish & Joe Fazzio Director: Sanford Bookstaver Network: ABC, Wednesday nights, 10 p.m. Original Telecast: February 15, 2012 The episode “Chaos” is perhaps the most aptly titled episode of REVENGE yet – there is so much going on, and it all ties into what we all came here to see, namely the shooting at the beginning of the season, which also starts the episode. And, oh, yes, there is one humdinger of a surprise twist at the end. More cynical minds might suggest we could have seen this coming. I totally […]Read On »

TV Review: SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE – “The Greater Good”

Liam McIntyre and Katrina Law in SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE | ©2012 Starz

Stars: Lucy Lawless, Liam McIntyre, Manu Bennett, Peter Mensah, Viva Bianca, Craig Parker Writer: Tracy Bellomo, Created by Steven S. DeKnight Director: Brendan Mehr   Network: STARZ, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: February 10, 2012 The last two episodes of SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE have moved kind of slowly. Yes, there has been plenty of violence and sex, but without a main storyline of action to move them; it just becomes an explicitly painted canvas to look at. Now with “The Greater Good” the storyline jumps into overdrive and ends with what could easily be classified as a cliffhanger. The season gets more […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICAN IDOL – Season 11 – “Performance Challenge”

AMERICAN IDOL S11 Performance Challenge | © 2012 Fox

Cast: Ryan Seacrest, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 8 p.m. Original Telecast: Feb. 16, 2012 I was amused after the final round of “Hollywood Week” on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL, over how excited people were to go to Las Vegas. Yeah, I guess the excitement of moving along is one thing, but it’s not like they are going to some great place where they can all do something fun. Half of the people are under 21 and that means no gambling. And as I said before, you can get […]Read On »

TV Review: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – Season 3 – “Dangerous Liaisons”

Claire Holt in THE VAMPIRE DIARIES - Season 3 - "Dangerous Liaisons" | ©2012 The CW/Quantrell D. Colbert

Stars: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder Writer: Caroline Dries, Based on the book by L.J. Smith Director: Chris Grismer  Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: February 9, 2012 THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is making the storyline involving Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his original vampire family at least interesting to watch. I was concerned initially at the start of the season when they brought Klaus back. Bringing back a villain from a previous season seemed weak sauce compared to how they had leveled up between prior seasons of the show. However, I have been pleasantly surprised with all of […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICAN IDOL – Season 11 – “Hollywood Round, Part 3”

AMERICAN IDOL Season 11 Hollywood Round Part 3 | © 2012 Fox

Cast: Ryan Seacrest, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 8 p.m. Original Telecast: Feb. 15, 2012 Seacrest last week said that this final round of “Hollywood Week” on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL, would be the “most drama ever” – yes, taking a page out of THE BACHELOR’s book o’ promotions. Well, it was dramarific for sure with the culmination of the dreaded group night where every year singers crash and burn under the pressure, the rehearsal and having to work with others. And to no one’s surprise it was full […]Read On »

TV Review: GLEE – Season 3 – “Heart”

Jeff Goldblum and Brian Stokes Mitchell in GLEE - Season 3 - "Heart" | ©2012 Fox/Adam Rose

Stars: Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Mark Salling, Harry Shum Jr., Jenna Ushkowitz Writer: Ali Adler Director: Brad Falchuk Network: Fox, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: February 14, 2012 Ugh! For a show titled “Heart,” there was little of it in another frustratingly bad episode of GLEE. As we await Nationals, the series has been treading water, trying to find focus after a string of exceptional episodes in the fall. There also seems to be a disingenuous attempt to find out […]Read On »
