First up in “The Empty Locket”,  Detective Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones) finally […]Read On »

CD Review: THE SHADOW soundtrack

By DANIEL SCHWEIGER 09/13/2012
THE SHADOW soundtrack | ©2012 Intrada Records

First heard on the radio in 1930, The Shadow set the tone for the archetypical playboy-cum-superhero, a man of leisure whose real nighttime activity was trading in his tuxedo for an ominous crime-fighting outfit, one that struck fear into the hearts of common thugs and super villains alike. Though The Shadow found popularity every medium from to the airwaves and comic books, it somehow took about sixty-three years for handsome Lamont Cranston and his ugly alter ego to make their big screen debuts. And like such wonderfully entertaining retro box office busts of the time as THE ROCKETEER and THE […]Read On »

TV Review: GUYS WITH KIDS – Season 1 premiere – “Pilot”

By CARL CORTEZ
Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford and Zach Cregger in GUYS WITH KIDS | ©2012 NBC

Stars: Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford, Zach Cregger, Jamie Lynn-Sigler, Tempestt Bledsoe, Erinn Hayes Teleplay: Charlie Grandy based on story by Charlie Grandy, Jimmy Fallon, Amy Ozols Director: Scott Ellis Network: NBC, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: September 12, 2012 My expectations for the new NBC sitcom GUYS WITH KIDS were surprisingly not high. With three dads wearing babies as a fashion accessory, it just appeared like it would be a one-joke show that would be unbearable and quickly fade away. However, there’s a great comedic  pedigree behind the show. The series was created by Jimmy Fallon, Charlie Grandy and Amy […]Read On »

TV Review: GO ON – Season 1 – “He Got Game, She Got Cats”

By RACHEL REITSLEFF
Matthew Perry in GO ON - Season 1 - "He Got Game, She Got Cats" | ©2012 NBC/Justin Lubin

This reviewer did not volunteer for the gig; the editor insisted. NBC’s new series GO ON has potential as it tries to mediate at once sending up and celebrating group therapy, along with sports radio. Putting Matthew Perry’s brand of snarkiness up against the sincerity – and […]Read On »

TV Review: THE X FACTOR – Season 2 premiere – “Auditions No. 1” (Austin and San Francisco)

By CARL CORTEZ
Britney Spears, Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid are the judges of THE X FACTOR - Season 2 | ©2012 Fox/Nino Munoz

Stars: Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays Original Telecast: September 12, 2012 Well, here’s a big surprise – THE X FACTOR Season 2 is actually pretty damn good. In fact, it’s the show THE X FACTOR should have been in Season 1. Yes, there are many tropes of the genre still hanging around that prove to be annoying (like purposely bad singers allowed on stage), but with a refreshed judging panel and a different approach in showcasing talent, THE X FACTOR is starting to feel more like an original show called THE […]Read On »

Common and Anson Mount in HELL ON WHEELS - Season 2 - "The Railroad Job" | ©2012 AMC/Chris Large

Stars: Anson Mount, Colm Meaney, Common, Dominique McElligott, Tom Noonan, Christopher Heyerdahl Writer:  Mark Richard  Director: Michael Nankin      Network: AMC, airs Sunday nights Original Telecast: September 9, 2012 Wow is “The Railroad Job” one of the biggest shoot ‘em up, bang ‘em up episodes of HELL ON WHEELS yet? All of Bohannan’s (Anson Mount) sins from the first episodes of this season definitely have come home to roost, and now it’s a question of who gets out alive when a town robbery gets botched. This is one of those ‘crisis’ episodes of a series, where writers get to define who […]Read On »

The creepy, crazy religious right group One Million Moms (you know the ones that protested JC Penny for having Ellen Degeneres in their ads) was vowing to boycott the network for having a series showing this type of “gay agenda” program on its network. So, […]Read On »
