Ryan McPartlin has played brother-in-law Devon Woodcomb, aka Captain Awesome, to the title hero (Zachary Levi) on five seasons of NBC’s series CHUCK, now airing Fridays at 8 PM. On the show, McPartlin’s character is a surgeon and new father who sometimes gets dragged into Chuck’s spy activities. While Chuck and his friends work with the CIA and NSA, McPartlin has rounded out his Federal acting profile with a part as historical figure Lawrence Richey, the man who introduced Clyde Tolson to Hoover, in this year’s Clint Eastwood-directed feature J. Exclusive Interview: AMERICAN HORROR STORY actress Frances Conroy plays housekeeper

Frances Conroy in AMERICAN HORROR STORY - Season 1 | ©2011 FX

In AMERICAN HORROR STORY, which has its first-season finale (it’s been renewed for a second) tonight on FX at 10 PM, some ghosts appear as rotting phantoms and others appear alive and tangible. One ghost, however, is so complex that she’s actually played by two actresses. Frances Conroy is the primary incarnation of perennial housekeeper Moira O’Hara, starchy and generally reserved, but her seductive younger self is played by Alexandra Breckinridge. Which version of Moira we see depends largely on who is looking at her – we realize that protagonist Ben Harmon, played by Dylan McDermott, is starting to wise […]Read On »

On TERRA NOVA the production, the producers have set up a team in Australia to shoot the show, which is several thousand miles and multiple time zones away from the series’ Hollywood home base. Bridging the gap between these is producing director Jon Cassar, who spent many years […]Read On »

In AMC’s post-Civil War Western  HELL ON WHEELS, which airs Sundays at 10 PM – it repeats throughout the week (see listings for times) – the railroad-building camp is primarily populated by men. One exception to this is Lily Bell, played by Dominique McElligott. Lily is the English wife of an American railroad surveyor – she has been widowed when her husband was killed by the anti-railroad local tribe. However, she’s a force to be reckoned with on her own. McElligott (pronounced mick-el-i-cot), who is Irish, has been visible as a variety of nationalities this year. In BLACKTHORN, she plays American Etta Place, […]Read On »

Damian Lewis and Claire Danes in HOMELAND - Season 1 | ©2011 Showtime

Showtime’s HOMELAND has just been nominated for a batch of Golden Globe Awards, including Drama Series, leading actress Claire Danes and leading actor Damian Lewis. Small wonder – the series, based on an Israeli drama called HATUFIM, has kept audiences riveted as Danes’ dedicated but unstable CIA agent Carrie Mathison tries to prove that Lewis’ former POW war hero Nicholas Brody has been turned by his captors and is planning a terrorist act on U.S. soil. HOMELAND executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, who adapted the material for American television, aren’t exactly novices when it comes to making shows […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: HELL ON WHEELS Co-Creator Joe Gayton dusts off the western for AMC

HELL ON WHEELS - Season 1 poster | ©2011 AMC

AMC’s HELL ON WHEELS, which airs Sundays at 10 PM, is a historical Western drama based in fact. Right after the American Civil War, Thomas “Doc” Durant (played in the series by Colm Meaney) really did set out to build a cross-Continental railroad with government funds and underpaid workers. With this as a narrative foundation, series creators/executive producers/brothers Joe Gayton and Tony Gayton have crafted a story focusing on Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount), a Confederate veteran seeking vengeance on the men who killed his wife. Other major characters are Elam(Common), a former slave avenging wrongs done to him, Lily Bell (Dominique McElligott), […]Read On »

Damian Lewis in HOMELAND - Season 1 | ©2011 Showtime/Kent Smith

Showtime’s HOMELAND, which concludes its first season with a special ninety-minute episode this Sunday at 10 PM, has had its audience dizzy with plot twists. At first, CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is sure that newly-returned POW/war hero Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody, played by Damian Lewis, has been turned into a terrorist sleeper agent during his years in captivity. Then it seems that Brody’s friend, who Brody wrongly believed he killed, is really the sleeper. But then, no, wait – for those who like their political action thriller television suspenseful and unpredictable, HOMELAND is the mother lode. London-born Lewis […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: Denis O’Hare terrorizes AMERICAN HORROR STORY

Denis O'Hare in AMERICAN HORROR STORY - Season 1 - "Halloween Pt. 2" | ©2011 FX/Ray Mickshaw

There are a plenty of ghosts and generally unwholesome entities roaming through FX’s hit AMERICAN HORROR STORY, Wednesdays at 10, but one of the most alarming-looking characters is the still-living Larry Harvey, played by Denis O’Hare. With severe burns over half his face, a fire-crippled body and a sightless eye, Larry’s appearance isn’t half as frightening as his personality – he’s a man who can justify anything if it suits his ego or his appetites. This isn’t O’Hare’s first brush with TV genre fame – he was also the vampire King of Mississippi, Russell Edgington, in Season Three of HBO’s […]Read On »
