With HOUSE returning for Season 8 with a leaner cast this fall, and a long negotiation process that delayed the announcement it would be returning, the question mark of whether the show will return for a Season 9 was in the air at today’s Summer 2011 Television Critics Association session for Fox. Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly says he still has no word if this will be the show’s final season. “I can’t confirm it’s the last season,” says Reilly. “Hugh [Laurie] is mulling it. The producers are. This is the original team of creators who have been there from […]Read On »

At today’s Summer 2011 Television Critics Association press tour, Fox’s Entertainment President Kevin Reilly spoke about how proud he was with their Thursday night staple BONES and would love to see it continue well into Season 8 and beyond. “The producers and I would like to keep it going,” says Reilly. “And FINDER [its spin-off] is off to a great start. I see those shows as compatible and feeding off each other. I’m pretty darn happy with BONES on Thursday night. As CSI [on CBS] was fading, BONES is looking as resilient as ever. It’s a really valuable show to […]Read On »

First Look Image of Henry Cavill as Superman in MAN OF STEEL

With Zack Snyder directing and Christopher Nolan producing, excitement for the new Superman movie reboot MAN OF STEEL couldn’t be higher. Then, Warner Bros. sneaks this first look of actor Henry Cavill as Superman, and well, it’s pretty freakin’ cool. The ghost of Christopher Reeve and near lookalike Brandon Routh is giving way for a more modern caped crusader. The movie opens June 14, 2013 – so we have a long time to wait before fanboy nirvana (or exhaustion hits), but for now, nicely done.   AGREE? DISAGREE? LET US KNOW HOW YOU FEEL – COMMENT BELOW! 20TH Century Fox held the Los Angeles Premiere of RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES on July 28th at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Fans lined the street, which was not closed off. So when the stars walked across the street to sign autographs they had to stop the traffic. The fans screamed very loudly for James Franco, Tom Felton and Rupert Grint. In the film, a single act of both compassion and arrogance leads to a war unlike any other, and to the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. The CGI ape is from the Oscar-winning […]Read On »

Interview: CAPTAIN AMERICA composer Alan Silvestri throws his mighty shield

CAPTAIN AMERICA soundtrack | ©2011 Walt Disney Records

When it comes to the sound of military heroism, few of today’s movie composers can signal an old-school orchestral brass salute like Alan Silvestri. From bombastically playing the dark march of Stallone’s JUDGE DREDD to capturing the steely commando skills of Schwarzenegger in ERASER and PREDATOR, this one-time synthesist for the easygoing motorcycle cops of CHiPS has become the go-to composer for the epic sound of super soldiers, most recently with the wisecracking adventure of THE A-TEAM and the techno-symphonic gadgets wielded by the G.I. JOE squadron. For a composer who always brings out the big thematic guns in the […]Read On »

The Dork Side takes on movie trailers including THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, THE SMURFS and more

Sometimes the best thing about going to the movies is seeing the movie trailers. Other times … not so much. Here are five movie previews that I watched so you don’t have to. THE SMURFS From the director of BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE and SCOOBY-DOO is another movie that will make you make you wish you were never born. This movie looks so smurfin’ bad. I would rather eat a smurfin’ gun than see it. Neil Patrick Harris deserves better than this. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN OK, I’m not going to lie to you, dear readers. I am going to see this […]Read On »

On TNT’s FRANKLIN & BASH, a new legal dramedy (airing its season finale tonight at 9 PM), the two title characters, played by Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, are free-wheeling lawyers who are recruited into an upscale legal firm by one of its senior partners, Stanton Enfeld. Enfeld, a wily, eccentric fellow, is played by legendary British actor Malcolm McDowell (A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, TIME AFTER TIME, STAR TREK: GENERATIONS, etc., etc., etc.). McDowell is as gracious as he is frequently employed. When a reporter steps up to talk with him about his new show, he includes FRANKLIN & BASH producer/director […]Read On »

While speaking with NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt at this summer’s 2011 TCA, ASSIGNMENT X asked about the status of THE EVENT wrap-up movie. Although things aren’t set in stone, Greenblatt does hint that a final decision about its ultimate fate could be decided quite soon. “It’s been discussed with Syfy and a few weeks ago it seemed more possible than it does today, but I honestly don’t know,” says Greenblatt. However, Greenblatt is quick to point out that THE EVENT, if it does get this last-minute reprise, will not air on NBC. “If it happens, it would definitely be […]Read On »
