While they both focus on chimpanzees, the PLANET OF THE APES film series and real-world primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall aren’t generally thought of together. However,20th Century Fox has partnered with the Jane Goodall Institute to provide care for rescued chimpanzees in honor of the latest installment of the film franchise, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, due out July 14. Chimpanzees are hunted by humans in some areas for food, they are losing enormous amounts of habitat and some are unwisely kept as pets (great apes are very powerful and can, even unintentionally, inflict great bodily harm). NOW YOU SEE ME 2 highlights Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Releases for Sept. 6, 2016

NOW YOU SEE ME 2 | © 2016 Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Movies: NOW YOU SEE ME 2 – The first NOW YOU SEE ME was a fun romp that mixed high profile magic with the possibility it was real mixed up in a caper involving good and bad magicians as well as some revenge elements. It ended with a finality of any one-off movie but this being Hollywood, something that becomes successful usually means it gets a sequel and here we are. Luckily, it isn’t bad albeit quite a bit different from the first. Instead of grand magic acts that are complex and amazing we instead get some tricky and slight-of-hand. […]Read On »

FARGO: Jeffrey Donovan talks about his role in Season 2 – exclusive interview

Jeffrey Donovan stars as Dodd Gerhardt in FARGO Season 2 | © 2015 Chris Large/FX

Season 2 of FX’s FARGO, Mondays at 10 PM, is not entirely unconnected to Season 1. In the series created by Noah Hawley, which takes its title and tone but no characters from the Coen Brothers’ 1996 feature, bad things just keep happening in Sioux Falls, North Dakota, and Luverne, Minnesota. In Season 2, it’s 1979, and State Police officer Lou Solverson (played by Patrick Wilson; the older version of the character was played by Keith Carradine in Season 1) is looking into a mystifying incident that involves both local and out-of-state criminals. One of the town’s bad men is […]Read On »

TRUE DETECTIVE poster | © 2014 HBO

HBO’s TRUE DETECTIVE, Sundays at 9 PM, was created by Nic Pizzolatto to be a standalone eight-hour story. If there is a second season, a la AMERICAN HORROR STORY, the characters, setting and perhaps even era will be different. Season 1 gives us Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as, respectively,  Martin Hart and Rust Cohle, two very different detectives in rural Louisiana who try to find a ritualistic serial killer back in 1995 and then revisit the case seventeen years later. Pizzolatto, who originally hails from Louisiana, is an award-winning novelist and short story writer. His scriptwriting experience prior to […]Read On »

Michelle Monaghan in TRUE DETECTIVE - Season 1 | © 2014 HBO

In TRUE DETECTIVE, HBO Sundays at 9 PM, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey play two very different Louisiana police detectives who worked a seemingly occult serial killer case back in 1995 that seems to be resonating in the present. The closed-ended eight-episode series, created by Nick Pizzolatto, moves back and forth across decades and continually surprises the audience. Michelle Monaghan plays Maggie Hart, the increasingly fed-up wife of Harrelson’s Martin Hart who becomes intrigued by McConaughey’s haunted Rust Cohle. The Iowa-born actress primarily works in feature films, with credits including KISS KISS BANG BANG, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III (as the new […]Read On »

Rating: R Stars: Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Tom Bower, Sam Shepard Writers: Brad Ingelsby and Scott Cooper Director: Scott Cooper Distributor: Relativity Media Release Date: December 6, 2013 OUT OF THE FURNACE is a film that seeks to pull deep meaning out of what feels like the closed-ended plot of an episode of a cable series, like JUSTIFIED or BOARDWALK EMPIRE. It is meant to be a heartfelt tale of loss and revenge, but despite some fine performances, the characters are underwritten. There’s only so much emotion we can feel when symbolism […]Read On »
