Although THE INVISIBLE WOMAN is the title of the new feature film directed by Ralph Fiennes and scripted by Abi Morgan from Claire Tomalin’s book, that’s now how we see its female protagonist Nelly Ternan, played by Felicity Jones. “I am the visible woman,” declares Jones with a laugh. The film has Jones playing Ternan from the age of eighteen, when she meets Charles Dickens, played by director Fiennes, through her thirties. The bulk of the movie is about how the eventually intimate relationship unfolds between young Nelly and the much older, famous and married author in 1800sEngland. Jones, originally […]Read On »

Long before he wrote “Howl,” helped found the Beat movement and became one of the most venerated poets – and gay activists – of the twentieth century, Allen Ginsberg entered Columbia Collegein 1944. The relationship between Carr and Kammerer became so fraught that it ended in tragedy, which in turn presented an enormous moral conundrum for Ginsberg. This true – but until now largely unknown – story has been brought to the screen in KILL YOUR DARLINGS, directed by John […]Read On »

CD Review: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN soundtrack | ©2012 Sony Classical

Few movies set off the spider-sense like thoroughly unnecessary, or ill-funded pictures that have been made to cling onto a franchise, a la the dreadful Roger Corman FANTASTIC FOUR movie that’s thankfully never seen the light of day beyond bootleg VHS sellers at comic conventions. But even more problematic is when a huge-budgeted saga you would’ve liked to have seen continue with the original players (even if it had a lackluster last chapter) has broken down because of script issues and contract negotiations. With this being said, for a movie that has no real right to exist if those calamities […]Read On »
