IN THE HEART OF THE SEA: Composer Roque Baños on scoring the seas – Interview

IN THE HEART OF THE SEA soundtrack | ©2015 WaterTower Music

If you madly hunt for great composing talents the world over, chances are you’ll hear the particular, vast melodic abilities of one Roque Baños. Hailing from Spain where he’d notably engage in the Spaghetti Western pastiche of 800 BULLETS,  the artistic classicism of GOYA IN BOURDEAUX and the bad cop antics of TORRENTE among the numerous movie he’d score in his home country, Baños first caught American ears with his romantically twisted crime stylings for 2000’s SEXY BEAST and the Herrmann-esque doom of 2004’s Theremin-possessed  THE MACHINIST. It’s been a long, prolific journey to our shores over the years before […]Read On »

Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl in RUSH | ©2013 Imagine Entertainment

It’s time to re-evaluate what happened at the Toronto International Film Festival by dividing up the films into three categories. Part 2: THE WARM (BUZZ+CRITICAL REACTION+AUDIENCE COMMENTS) THE FIFTH ESTATE Warts and all Julian Assange / WikiLeaks story starring Benedict Cumberbatch. CONSENSUS: While it’s nice to see Bill Condon (GODS AND MONSTERS) not directing another TWILIGHT movie this was a mixed bag. Most applauded that he asked more question than he answered and praised Cumberbatch’s layered […]Read On »

It does not describe the pace of the film, although RUSH proceeds at a smooth pace, nor the sensation most of the audience will experience, albeit it’s perfectly watchable. For much of the 1970s, there was a rivalry both on-track and off (the professional rivalry is […]Read On »
