THE KOMINSKY METHOD - Season 1 | ©2019 Netflix

THE KOMINSKY METHOD is an uncharacteristic creation for writer/executive producer Chuck Lorre. Lorre is known for the CBS comedy hits he created or co-created, including the long-running TWO AND A HALF MEN, MIKE & MOLLY, the continuing MOM, the just-concluded twelve seasons of THE BIG BANG THEORY and that show’s prequel spinoff, the renewed YOUNG SHELDON. THE KOMINSKY METHOD, now in its first season on Netflix and in production on its second, has its share of humor. However, it deals seriously with issues of aging, failing health and death. Michael Douglas (who won a Golden Globe for his work in […]Read On »

Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh has long been interested in the late pianist Liberace as a potential subject for a film. When Scott Thorson, who was Liberace’s lover for six years, wrote a book (with Alex Thorliefson) about their relationship, Soderbergh felt he had the spine of his story. The result is BEHIND THE CANDELABRA, which premieres Sunday night, May 26, on HBO at 9 PM. Directed by Soderbergh from a screenplay by Richard LaGravenese and produced by Jerry Weintraub, the film stars Michael Douglas (who previously worked with Soderbergh in TRAFFIC) as Liberace and Matt Damon (who has costarred in Soderbergh’s […]Read On »

This year, HBO not only taps into the life of Phil Spector for a TV movie, but also Liberace with the Steven Soderbergh directed BEHIND THE CANDELABRA. While speaking about the film at the Winter TCA 2013 Cable Day, Douglas says he relished portraying the larger-than-life Liberace. “Characters are normally a little easier to play than things that might be closer to yourself,” says Douglas. “So actually, it’s sort of a license of freedom, […]Read On »

Why, oh, why did this suck so bad? Here’s an example of how COMA fails miserably: whenever something interesting or suspenseful happens, suddenly the characters start looking at charts and talking ominous about what’s on the page. Or in other […]Read On »

McLaughlin based on the book by Robin Cook Director: Mikael Salomon Network: A&E Original Telecast: August 3, 2012 When you name your mini-series COMA, you better deliver a suspenseful, taut thriller, otherwise, puns from journalists reviewing it will be aplenty. So yes, here’s one coming now – COMA puts you to sleep. Yes, the first two hours of this mini-series airing on A&E is a complete bore. The script is sluggish, the scenarios ridiculous and the pay-off (which finally happens during the […]Read On »
