Finding a new take on the familiar Santa Claus adventures is a formidable task, but writer-director Sarah Smith and co-writer Peter Baynham were up for the challenge with the new animated film ARTHUR CHRISTMAS. A CGI co-production between Aardman Animation and Sony Pictures Animation, the story follows wayward Santa Claus offspring Arthur – a well-to-do nebbish who believes in the true spirit of Christmas, but will sadly never be next in line for the Santa job with his much more together older brother Steve – who has completely streamlined the Santa operation for dear old Santa dad with a state-of-the-art […]Read On »

Rating: PG Stars (voices): James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Ashley Jensen, Imelda Staunton Writers: Peter Baynham & Sarah Smith Director: Sarah Smith Distributor: Columbia Pictures Release Date: November 23, 2011 Some fantasy subgenres are so populous that they have arguably outgrown the designation of “sub”: the lovelorn vampire, the quest through mystical lands, the zombie apocalypse. Add to this list (and check it twice) the genre of Santa having gift delivery issues on Christmas Eve. The newest iteration of this last is ARTHUR CHRISTMAS, the first 3D CGI animation (as opposed to stop-motion Claymation) offering from Aardman, […]Read On »

With HOUSE returning for Season 8 with a leaner cast this fall, and a long negotiation process that delayed the announcement it would be returning, the question mark of whether the show will return for a Season 9 was in the air at today’s Summer 2011 Television Critics Association session for Fox. Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly says he still has no word if this will be the show’s final season. “I can’t confirm it’s the last season,” says Reilly. “Hugh [Laurie] is mulling it. The producers are. This is the original team of creators who have been there from […]Read On »

TV Review: HOUSE – Season 7 – “Selfish”

Hugh Laurie in HOUSE - Season 7 | ©2010 Fox

Stars: Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Olivia Wilde, Peter Jacobson Writer: Eli Attie Director: Daniel Attias Network: Fox, airs Monday nights Original Telecast: September 27, 2010 Did we get our first real HOUSE episode of the season? Not to knock the season premiere, “Now What?” (which was good but hardly resembled a HOUSE episode), but “Selfish” showed us that Huddy and HOUSE can coexist and in fact make for some darn good television. To be honest, that was what was on the line this week: whether HOUSE can truly pull this off or if, […]Read On »

TV Review: HOUSE – Season 7 – “Now What?” – Season Premiere

Stars: Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Olivia Wilde, Peter Jacobson Writer: Doris Egan Director: Greg Yaitanes Network: Fox, airs Monday nights Original Telecast: September 20, 2010 Well, it was real. Huddy (House + Cuddy for you folks out there not in the know) is happening, and to be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about that as HOUSE enters its seventh season. I suppose it would have been utterly ridiculous to have House (Hugh Laurie) and Cuddy’s (Lisa Edelstein) encounter be another hallucination or a dream or any other DALLAS type ending. At […]Read On »
