In the fantasy/adventure series ATLANTIS, now airing its first season on BBC America Saturday nights at 9 PM, Jason (Jack Donnelly), who will one day captain the Argonauts and wed Medea, washes up on the shores of the fabled city. There Jason teams up with a rather out-of-shape Hercules (Mark Addy), mathematician Pythagoras (Robert Emms) and a not-yet-snaky Medusa (Jemima Rooper) as he tries to puzzle out his destiny. ATLANTIS executive producers/co-creators Johnny Capps and Howard Overman, who also created the BBC’s MERLIN, are present at a party thrown by BBC America for the Television Critics Association. There they talk […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: Rupert Friend chats HOMELAND Season Three

Rupert Friend in HOMELAND - Season 3 | ©2013 Showtime/Frank Ockenfels 3

In the universe of HOMELAND, now in its third season on Showtime, Sundays at 9 PM, almost everyone has a secret agenda. We still don’t know whether this is true of CIA assassin Peter Quinn, played by Rupert Friend. What we do know is that Quinn is willing to go against orders when he believes they’re wrong, willing to threaten a superior who he believe is acting from pride rather than national protection, and that he’s willing to shoot to wound friend Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) when he thinks she’s jeopardizing a mission. Friend, born in Oxfordshire, England, earned an […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: Ken Marino pushes hard for BAD MILO

Ken Marino in BAD MILO | ©2013 Magnet

In the annals of ass-monster movies, BAD MILO comes across as a terrific rush – pardon the unavoidable metaphors. Not nearly the gross-out fiesta its premise of a dooty Dark Half might imply in its admittedly hilarious trailer, this production of director Jacob Vaughan (THE CASSIDY KIDS) and the usually sedate mumblecore directors / producers Jay and Mark Duplass (BAGHEAD), BAD MILO is far more of an update of tragic WOLFMAN mythos, as crossed with the satire of OFFICE SPACE, the reproductive angst of THIRTYSOMETHING and any number of post-EST self-help psychiatry sessions. Grimacing and screaming through it all in […]Read On »

They screamed, had signs for their favorite TWILIGHT star. Some were lucky enough to have the stars pose with them for photos and had memorabilia with them for the stars to sign and they were not disappointed. Since 2008 a lot of these […]Read On »

CD Review: The Cars – MOVE LIKE THIS

The Cars - MOVE LIKE THIS | ©2011 Hear Music

Distributor: Hear Music Suggested Retail Price: $11.88 The music The Cars produced in their late ‘70s and 1980s run was unparalleled. From the New Wave textures of “Shake It Up” and “My Best Friend’s Girl” to the non-stop hit-palooza of 1984’s HEARTBEAT CITY that featured a long string of hits including “Magic,” “You Might Think,” and “Drive.” However, after 1987’s incredibly disappointing DOOR TO DOOR album, the band decided to call it quits and leave its legacy at six studio albums. Over the years, frontman Ric Ocasek released a steady stream of solo records, with most of them containing at […]Read On »

Single Review: THE CARS – “Sad Song” 7 inch (Record Day 2011 Exclusive)

The Cars - "Sad Song" 7 inch single | ©2011 Concord/Hear Music

Distributor: Concord/Hear Music Suggested Retail Price: $4.99 It’s fitting that Record Store Day 2011 would include a 7 inch single from 1980s band The Cars who have reunited for the first time since 1988. They debut two new songs that are off their new album MOVE LIKE THIS due out May 10 and it feels like it’s the 1980s all over again. Sure, downloading tunes is easier, but to actually get an A and B side in a nifty sleeve reminds us why going to record stores is such a long lost tactile art in the digital age. “Sad Song” […]Read On »

Single Review: MICHAEL JACKSON – “Behind the Mask” 7 inch (Record Day 2011 Exclusive)

Michael Jackson - "Behind the Mask" 7 inch single | ©2011 Sony

Distributor: Sony Suggested Retail Price: $6.99 Michael Jackson mania may finally be over. After lackluster sales for his 2010 posthumous release MICHAEL, the fervor following his death (and a resurgence of his old music) didn’t translate into sales for the hodge podge of leftover tunes from his vaults. Some claimed there was too much studio work done to the demos he left behind, others claimed he wasn’t singing on all the tracks. I will say, that there were at least a few songs on the disc that were damn good, and probably should not have stayed in the vault as […]Read On »
